Protein Twix Bars (Copycat Version)

Protein Twix Bars (Copycat Version)

If you love the classic combination of buttery cookie, gooey caramel, and chocolate, you are going to want to make these Protein Twix Bars on repeat.

This healthier copycat version takes all those irresistible layers and gives them a nourishing Blended Bites makeover – with protein added to the mix and no baking required.

You get a soft, slightly crumbly almond flour base, a rich and chewy nut butter caramel layer, and a smooth chocolate topping that sets into the perfect little snap. Each bite has that familiar Twix-style combination of textures, but the ingredients are simple enough to feel good about keeping a batch in your fridge.

At Blended Bites, we believe healthy eating is not about taking away the foods you love. It is about adding more good stuff in. That is the idea behind these bars. Instead of saying goodbye to chocolate and caramel, we are simply giving them a more nourishing foundation.

A Better-For-You Twix

Traditional caramel chocolate bars are delicious, but they are generally made with refined flour, sugar, butter, and caramel made primarily from sugar and dairy. There is nothing wrong with enjoying those foods occasionally, but if you are looking for an everyday treat, homemade is a great way to control what goes into the recipe.

The base of these Protein Twix Bars uses almond flour instead of regular flour. Almond flour gives the cookie layer a soft, slightly nutty texture that works beautifully with the other ingredients. Protein powder adds a nutritional boost while helping create a satisfying base.

Then comes the caramel.

The Nut Butter Caramel

This isn’t traditional caramel – and that is exactly what makes it so easy. Instead of standing over a saucepan cooking sugar to a precise temperature, you simply combine nut butter, maple syrup, and a little coconut oil. The result is a creamy, sticky caramel-style layer with a wonderful nutty flavor.

Peanut butter gives the bars a classic candy-bar taste, while almond or cashew butter creates a slightly more delicate flavor. Add a pinch of sea salt and you have got that irresistible sweet-and-salty combination.

The protein powder in the base also helps make these bars more satisfying, so they are not simply a sugar hit disguised as a healthy snack.

Don’t Skip The Chocolate!

The final layer is what turns these from tasty protein bars into Protein Twix Bars. A generous layer of melted dark chocolate creates a smooth chocolate coating that contrasts beautifully with the soft caramel and tender almond flour base. You can use dark, milk, or sugar-free chocolate depending on your preference.

For an extra-special finish, sprinkle a tiny amount of flaky sea salt over the chocolate before it sets.

No Oven Required

Perhaps the best part? There is no baking involved. Simply mix the base, press it into a pan, spread over the nut butter caramel, pour on the melted chocolate, and chill.

That’s it!

They are perfect for weekend meal prep, lunchboxes, afternoon snacks, or those evenings when you want something sweet without reaching for a packaged candy bar. Keep them in the refrigerator for a firmer, chewy texture or pop them into the freezer if you prefer your bars extra firm.

And because they are so rich and satisfying, you can cut them into smaller squares rather than oversized bars. Sometimes a couple of bites of something really delicious are all you need.

These Protein Twix Bars are proof that nourishment does not have to mean boring. You have still got the chocolate. You have still got the caramel. You have still got that irresistible cookie layer. You are simply enjoying them in a homemade, protein-rich version that fits beautifully into the Blended Bites philosophy. 🤎
