Nature’s Botox Gummies. Who Knew!

Spread the love

Who knew glowing skin and a happy gut could come in such a fun, delicious form? These Nature’s Botox Gummies are your new go to snack for nourishment that works from the inside out. Crafted with real fruit juice and the collagen boosting power of grass fed gelatine, each gummy is a bite of natural sweetness, with benefits that radiate through your skin, joints, and digestive health.

Gummies are the perfect snack for kids and adults alike. However, most store-bought gummies contain refined sugars like glucose syrup, sugar, dextrose or artificial flavors and colors, which doesn’t make them the healthiest option. Even though they claim to be fruit-flavored, there’s very little – if any at all – actual fruit in them. Gummy candies are filled with unhealthy ingredients with a list on the label that looks like this – sugar, sugar, corn syrup, sugar, red 40, blue 1, and yellow 5.

Homemade gummies can be made with real fruit, protein-rich gelatin and no refined sugar! Loaded with nutrients and so much better for you than store-bought. A great option for an easy and healthy all-natural snack with protein and no artificial junk in them! Easy to make and fun to eat!

Why eat gelatin gummies?

Gelatin makes up almost one-third of all the protein in our bodies and not having enough affects our joints, our skin and our gastro system.

Gelatin is a colorless and tasteless protein made from hydrolyzed collagen, which means it is part of the broken-down collagen. It provides important amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.

Gelatin also has a ton health benefits – supporting digestive and gut health, maintaining strong bones, helping with joint pain, strengthening tendons, improving skin health, and can even help improve sleep.

Gelatin when cooled, becomes a sticky adhesive like glue and gels together. Which is how we can make homemade gummies from it.

The biggest benefit of eating gelatin is that it is a gut healer, which means better nutrient absorption (so greater nourishment) all round.  Also, if your gut is functioning well, then your nervous system is better supported too. Gelatin contains amino acids that helps to seal leaky gut and feeds the good bacteria in your intestinal tract.

Its list of benefits includes improving the condition of your skin, hair and nails.  In fact, it’s said to be better then botox (and erase wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite). Yoo hoo to that one! These cranberry gelatin squares are the perfect treat. Packed with minerals and protein they are a great post-workout snack (or any snack for that matter) and a great treat for children too!

Oh, jello … the sugar (or chemical) laden mystery food of hospitals and cafeterias. As a child I got my fair share of this stuff back then. Now we are more aware the “Jell-o” gelatin in stores is packed with sugar (or artificial sweeteners), dyes, additives, and gelatin from factory-farmed animals.   Not really what you want to put into your body or those of your family.

Skip the box! When you can make homemade gelatin squares (aka “finger jello”) with a few ingredients and 5 minutes, healthy snacks are a cinch. Healthy gelatin from grass-fed animals can be an incredible protein source and something you can feel good about eating.

If you are looking to add more protein to your diet here is one of my favorite simple to make, high protein sweet snacks. These cranberry gelatin squares are great to have on hand for a healthy snack or dessert. They make a delicious change from boxed fruit flavored gelatin.

There are so many amazing benefits that can come from eating gelatin, including improvements in digestive, skin, and mental health. Plus, gelatin can be used to make a yummy, all-natural dessert that’s actually good for us and this recipe is a simple way to get gelatin into your diet.

If you want to add some variety to this basic recipe you can switch up the flavors by adding different flavor extracts or sweet spices like cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, ginger, nutmeg and so on. And lastly you can add additional ingredients like chopped nuts, desiccated coconut, fresh berries or fruit.

Gelatin is not a food that’s commonly used in the standard American diet and some have said that this may be a missing piece in our diet. In older times, people used to eat the entire animal (skin tendons, etc), so obtaining crucial amino acids was not a problem. In today’s world everything seems to be skinless and boneless with very little fat, therefore most of us miss out on these key nutrients.

I’m a huge fan of gelatinous treats but I’m not a particularly patient person, so when it comes to using teeny-tiny moulds….well, let’s just say it has to be a special occasion! I much prefer the pour and set approach, which is how this recipe arose. That’s not to say you can’t get creative and use a cute little mould. You can also use patty pans or mini cupcakes as moulds.

Its time to get your glow on,  as collagen, the main component of gelatin, is a vital protein for maintaining skin structure and firmness. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, leading to wrinkles and fine lines.

Gelatin, being a source of collagen and amino acids, helps replenish these lost components and potentially improve skin appearance. This recipe contains gelatin which is a dietary source of collagen and eating or drinking collagen helps to increase the body’s own collagen production to help you feel your best in your skin no matter what age you are.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cranberry juice (no sugar added)
  • Juice of 3 fresh oranges
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 envelopes unflavoured gelatin (4 tablespoons)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon honey - optional

Coating

  • 1/4 cup granulated stevia or sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered citric acid (optional for a sour touch)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, add 2 cups of the juice and gelatin and allow to ‘bloom’ for 5-10 minutes. This just means allow it to sit and absorb the water.
Heat the remaining 2 cups of juice in the saucepan over low/medium heat until the juice starts to steam.  Do not bring the juice to a boil.
Take off the heat and add the gelatin and juice mixture to saucepan with the warm juice. Stir until the gelatin is dissolved and no lumps remain.
Mix in the honey if using.
Once all has dissolved, pour the mixture into silicon moulds, ice trays, or a small dish or pan.
Place in the fridge to set for 2-3 hours.
Pop the gummies out of the moulds, or cut into squares or cubes and roll in granulated stevia or sugar if desired.
