These fat bombs candies are a wonderful treat. Chocolaty and melt-in-your-mouth, I love having one as my after-dinner dessert. Since my family goes through them quickly (they are irresistible!), I often double the recipe and make two dozen. I store them in the freezer and remove them to the counter an hour before eating them.
Fat bombs are high-fat, low-carb snacks, originally designed to help people on a lower carb diet to meet their daily fat intake goals and manage cravings. They can be either sweet or savory and are typically made from a base of fatty ingredients like coconut oil, nut butters, or cream cheese. They are high in (healthy) fat, bite-sized snacks, that act as energy bites, with fat as the main energy source. They are primarily used to provide a concentrated source of energy and helps promote feelings of fullness so you are not tempted to overeat with less healthier things.
Made with ingredients like coconut oil, nuts, nut/seed butters, coconut cream, coconut butter or oil, cream cheese, dark chocolate, avocado and little to no sugar. They serve as an alternative to traditional sugary desserts, satisfying sweet cravings without high carbohydrate intake. This recipe is another fabulous healthy snack doing the rounds of social media. You might have even seen them yourself as they are trending and becoming viral.
Who doesn’t love the combination of chocolate and nut butter?! Each is great, but they are better together. They are a match made in heaven, and you can still enjoy the marriage without all of those too many carbs getting in the way.
If you know anyone following a keto (low-carb) lifestyle, I can almost guarantee they are whipping up fat bombs on the regular! They are a very popular craze for a reason and they are here to stay! They are called fat bombs because they incorporate healthy fats into snacks and desserts to keep you satiated between meals making you much less likely to binge/overeat. They are easily portion controlled, and the richness of the healthy fats is very satiating to the taste buds.
Oh, and did I mention they are easy to make? They only take a few minutes, so they are great to keep in mind for those times when you need a really fast dessert or sweet healthy treat. One of the best things about this recipe is its ultra-short ingredients list – just 5-6 wholesome real food ingredients.
Are fat bombs healthy?
I know people have very different views on how much fat to eat in a day, so while my own diet is pretty high in healthy fat it will of course depend on your own personal views and dietary needs.
These treats are not only high in heart-healthy fat, they are also completely free of refined carbohydrates and sugar, and the fat helps you to feel full and satisfied with just a small amount. So it’s not like cookies or candy where you could eat a ton and yet somehow still be just as hungry as before you started.
People trying to reduce their sugar intake often complain about the lack of sweets in their quest to get healthier. That’s because a low-carb way of eating is very focused on eliminating harmful sugar from your diet. But there are options for that lingering sweet tooth in your life.
Fat bombs are the perfect snack for anyone who tends to like desserts that are rich and delicious but not super sweet. Since they are so low in sugar, they are great for eating any time of the day, either on their own or as part of a meal – breakfast, afternoon, post-workout, or as a nighttime healthy snack instead of potato chips, cookies or ice cream.
How fat bombs work:
Energy source: They offer healthy fats that the body can use as fuel when carbohydrates are restricted, which is the primary goal of the keto type diet.
Satiety and appetite control: The high fat content promotes a feeling of fullness, which helps curb hunger, cravings, and overeating between meals.
Sweet treat alternative: For those on a low-carb diet, fat bombs are a way to enjoy a sweet or dessert-like treat without consuming high-carb or sugary ingredients that would disrupt fat loss.
Key benefits:
Provides a quick and convenient source of dietary fat
Helps manage hunger and sugar cravings
Offers a healthy and low-carb alternative to traditional sweets
Easily prepared and stored for later use.
You will discover these fat bombs are BURSTING with flavor! The way the chocolate blends so perfectly with the nut butter and coconut makes them taste like something really naughty. Except they fill you up and don’t make your blood sugar levels go wacko!
As with anything, moderation is key for these, but they are so filling that it’s much easier to feel satisfied even after just a small amount. They are the perfect little craving busters and sweet tooth tamers. Enjoy one after dinner or lunch to lessen your chance of succumbing to that bag of chocolate chips that has been sitting in the pantry (or the tub of ice cream in the freezer that is calling you!)
If you have never tried keto fat bombs before, they are…well…da bomb!
