Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Balls

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Balls

Rich, Fudgy & Chocolate-Coated

If you love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate, these Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Balls are about to become a new favourite. Soft, creamy, and wonderfully fudgy inside with a crisp coating of melted chocolate outside, they are like little chocolate truffles with a nourishing protein-packed twist.

And the best part? There is no baking required.

Made with creamy yogurt, almond flour, cocoa, protein powder, and peanut butter, these little bites come together in minutes. Dip them in melted chocolate, pop them in the refrigerator to set, and you have got a delicious snack or dessert ready to go.

This is exactly the kind of recipe we love at Blended Bites.

Healthy eating should not mean giving up the flavours you love. Instead, it is about finding simple ways to add nourishing ingredients to treats that already make you happy. These protein balls are a perfect example of Addition Eating -adding protein, healthy fats, and wholesome ingredients rather than focusing on restriction.

Why These Protein Balls Work

The secret to the soft, fudgy texture is yogurt.

Thick Greek yogurt gives the mixture a creamy consistency while providing protein and beneficial probiotics. It also helps bind the ingredients together without needing large amounts of oil or butter. When combined with almond flour, the yogurt creates a soft dough that is easy to roll into balls.

Almond flour contributes a lovely nutty flavour and satisfying texture while adding healthy fats and vitamin E. It also gives these protein balls a slightly truffle-like consistency that works beautifully with the rich cocoa.

Then there is the protein powder. Protein powder is what transforms these little chocolate treats from an ordinary energy bite into a more substantial snack. It helps support muscle maintenance and recovery and can contribute to feelings of fullness, making these balls much more satisfying than traditional chocolate truffles.

Chocolate protein powder works especially well, but vanilla protein powder is delicious too. The vanilla creates more of a classic peanut butter cup flavour.

And, of course, we cannot forget the peanut butter. Peanut butter brings that rich, salty, nutty flavour that makes the combination of peanut butter and chocolate so irresistible. It also contributes healthy fats and makes the filling extra creamy. If you are using natural peanut butter, give it a good stir before measuring so the oil is evenly distributed.

The Chocolate Coating

You could absolutely enjoy these protein balls without a coating, but dipping them in melted chocolate takes them to another level. Once chilled, the chocolate forms a thin, crisp shell around the soft filling. The contrast between the creamy centre and crunchy chocolate coating makes every bite feel like a decadent candy.

Dark chocolate works beautifully, especially if you enjoy a less-sweet treat. Milk chocolate creates a sweeter, more nostalgic flavour, while sugar-free chocolate can be used if that suits your preferences.

Add a pinch of sea salt on top before the chocolate sets and you have got something seriously special.

A Snack That Satisfies

One of the reasons we love protein balls is their convenience. Make a batch once and keep them in the refrigerator or freezer. They are ready whenever you need something sweet, whether that is an afternoon snack, post-workout bite, lunchbox treat, or simple dessert after dinner.

They are also portion-controlled naturally. Grab one when you want a little something sweet or two when you need a more substantial snack.

And because they are made with protein, healthy fats, and a little sweetness, they can be much more satisfying than reaching for a handful of conventional candy.

Make Them Your Own

There are so many ways to customise these little chocolate bites.

Add chopped peanuts for crunch.
Stir in mini chocolate chips.
Add shredded coconut for a chocolate peanut butter coconut version.
Mix in a little espresso powder for mocha flavour.
Add a pinch of cinnamon for warmth.
Or drizzle the finished balls with peanut butter before serving.
You can also swap peanut butter for almond or cashew butter if you prefer.
For a fruity twist, add finely chopped freeze-dried raspberries to the mixture before rolling.

The possibilities are endless.

These Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Balls are proof that healthy snacks do not have to be boring, complicated, or restrictive. They are rich, creamy, chocolatey, peanut buttery, and satisfying enough to feel like a genuine treat. Make a batch, keep them chilled, and enjoy a little chocolate-peanut butter goodness whenever you need it.

Because when a healthy snack tastes this much like dessert, everybody wins. 🤎

I  love that homemade protein balls are a highly nutritious, no-bake snack made by combining a protein source with binders like nut butter and natural sweeteners. They are highly customizable, require no cooking, and serve as an ideal grab-and-go option for pre-workout fuel, post-workout recovery, or midday snacks.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 scoop chocolate or vanilla protein powder
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or preferred sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup dark or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Optional Toppings

  • Chopped peanuts
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Cacao nibs
  • Shredded coconut
  • Freeze-dried raspberries
  • Peanut butter drizzle

Instructions

  • Add the Greek yogurt, almond flour, protein powder, cocoa powder, peanut butter, sweetener, vanilla and salt to a mixing bowl.
Stir thoroughly until a thick, fudgy dough forms.
If the mixture feels too soft, add another tablespoon of almond flour. If it feels too dry, add a small spoonful of yogurt.
Refrigerate the mixture for 20–30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
Roll the mixture into approximately 12–14 bite-sized balls.
Place the balls on a baking paper-lined tray.

Chocolate Coating

  • Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in small dish and microwave with 20 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.
Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together.
Remove the balls and working quickly, using two forks, dip one ball at a time into the bowl of melted chocolate until it is fully coated. Lift the ball from the bowl of chocolate and let any excess drip off, then place it onto a tray lined with baking paper. Repeat with the remaining balls.
Return to the tray and immediately add your chosen toppings.
Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes, or until the chocolate coating has set.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. The protein balls can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Allow them to thaw for a few minutes before eating.
