Breakfast can be overwhelming at the best of times… Especially when you have to do a million other things first thing in the morning. Whether you are a busy professional, a parent, or a student, it can be so difficult to make time for breakfast! Not to mention to try and eat a healthy, nutritious meal instead of grabbing the first thing you find in your fridge.
These blended oats are the answer to all of your prayers. You can prep them in less than 5 minutes the night before, and enjoy them in the morning with your toppings of choice. When it comes to easy, flavor-packed, and make-ahead breakfasts, overnight oats always deliver. No more hassle!
This recipe is for one. All for you. No need to share. If you wish to make more simply double or triple the recipe.
Recently blended oats have started to appear all over social media sites and I needed to see if they lived up to the hype. And did they ever! Blending the ingredients together gives the finished recipe a thick, almost pudding-like texture.
What are blended oats?
Blended oats are a cold breakfast bowl made with the same ingredients as overnight oats but blended in the blender to create a creamy texture. It’s perfect for people who don’t like the chunky texture of overnight oat recipes, or simply for a new oatmeal breakfast texture
With a cap of melted chocolate (and I say chocolate is absolutely a breakfast food!) it makes an even more magical bowl of goodness. You can add toppings like fruit of your choice, crunchy peanuts, hemp, chia seeds or cacao nibs.
If you are not a big fan of the texture of overnight oats, try to blend it, and you will be surprised by its creamy texture! It tastes like dessert or oatmeal pudding. You can even dress it up to be the belle of the ball and flavour it with lemon or orange or any other flavour you can think of.
Blended oats are one of my favourite breakfasts to prepare as they are super easy, super customizable (so you can get super creative) meaning you will never get bored of them, and they are packed with benefits. Not only are they high protein so they are super satiating but they are also low calorie! Oats are one of the most healthiest grains as:
They are super high in the soluble fiber Beta-Glucan which helps to reduce blood sugar, increase satiation (feeling of fullness), and increase good bacteria in the digestive tract.
They are loaded with important vitamin and minerals, such as manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc.
They are rich in antioxidants, including avenanthramides. Studies have shown that these polyphenol compounds can help reduce blood pressure and provide other benefits
These “magic shell” blended oats recipes have also been trending on social media for so long and I can see why! The satisfaction of breaking through that chocolate shell to reach the creamy oats beneath is unmatched.
While it looks a little complicated, it’s actually the complete opposite. The oats come together so easily, and they taste like having dessert for breakfast!
How to make the magic shell:
The magic shell is very easy to make! The secret ingredient to making the magic shell is coconut oil. As coconut oil is in liquid form when warm, it helps to thin out the melted white chocolate, spreading in a thin layer over the oats.
As coconut oil sets solid when cold it will firm up with the chocolate when chilled. This creates that satisfying crack when you break through the shell to your oats beneath.
