If you love frozen treats but want something a little more nourishing than traditional ice cream or chocolate bark, this Protein Bark With Berries is going to be a new favourite.
Creamy yogurt and cottage cheese are blended with naturally sweet banana and protein powder, then loaded with juicy strawberries and blueberries before being frozen into deliciously crunchy-soft pieces. The result is a refreshing, creamy treat that feels like dessert but delivers a satisfying protein boost too.
And just like so many Blended Bites recipes, there is no baking required. Simply blend, spread, add your berries, freeze, and break into pieces.
A Better Way to Enjoy a Frozen Treat
Frozen desserts have a special kind of appeal. They are cold, creamy, refreshing, and somehow feel extra indulgent. But many traditional frozen treats are primarily made from added sugar and don’t provide much protein or staying power.
This bark takes a completely different approach. Instead of starting with cream and lots of sugar, the base combines yogurt, cottage cheese, banana, and protein powder. The cottage cheese gives the mixture an incredibly creamy texture while adding valuable protein. Yogurt contributes tanginess and makes the bark light and refreshing, while banana provides natural sweetness and helps create a smooth consistency.
Then we add plenty of berries for bursts of fresh flavour.
It is simple, wholesome, and delicious.
Why Add Protein?
Protein is an essential nutrient that your body needs every day. It helps support muscle maintenance and repair and can contribute to feelings of fullness and satisfaction.
That is one reason protein is such an important part of the Blended Bites approach. Rather than thinking about healthy eating as a list of foods you need to eliminate, we focus on addition – adding nourishing ingredients that make your meals and snacks more satisfying.
This bark is a perfect example. You are not giving up dessert. You are simply adding protein-rich ingredients to create a treat that is more substantial than a typical sweet snack. And because cottage cheese blends beautifully, you don’t need to worry about the texture. Once blended with the yogurt and banana, it creates a smooth, creamy base that is perfect for freezing.
The Berry Magic
Strawberries and blueberries are the stars of this recipe.
Fresh strawberries add juicy sweetness and a gorgeous pop of colour, while blueberries provide little bursts of fruity flavour throughout the creamy base. You can use fresh or frozen berries, although fresh berries are particularly lovely if you are making this during berry season.
For an extra-pretty bark, slice the strawberries and gently scatter them across the surface rather than stirring everything together. This gives you beautiful berry pieces throughout every broken shard.
The Perfect Freezer Snack
This recipe is especially useful when you want something ready to grab from the freezer. Make a batch, freeze it until firm, then break it into irregular pieces and store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. There is no need to thaw the entire batch.
Simply take out a piece whenever you want a cold, creamy, protein-rich treat.
It is perfect for:
Afternoon cravings
Post-workout snacks
A healthy after-dinner dessert
Hot summer days
Kids’ snacks
Quick freezer treats
The bark softens slightly after a few minutes at room temperature, giving you that lovely combination of creamy centre and frozen berry pieces.
Make It Your Own
This recipe is incredibly easy to customise. Try adding a little vanilla or cinnamon to the base, or swirl through some almond butter before freezing. You could also sprinkle the top with shredded coconut, chopped nuts, chia seeds, or cacao nibs.
Want more chocolate? Add a few dark chocolate chips or drizzle melted dark chocolate over the frozen bark. You can also switch up the fruit. Raspberries, blackberries, mango, or sliced peaches would all work beautifully.
It is one simple base with endless possibilities. 💥
I love that snack and dessert barks are so easy to make, require minimal cleanup, and swap out heavy refined sugars for nutrient-rich alternatives. Below are three variations: a protein-packed yogurt base, an antioxidant-rich dark chocolate base, and a viral fruit and nut base.

Creamy Protein Bark With Berries
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup Greek yogurt or thick natural yogurt
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup strawberries, sliced
- 3/4 cup blueberries
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup, optional
Topping
- 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
Optional Toppings
- Chopped nuts
- Freeze dried strawberries or blueberries
- Hemp or chia seeds
- Cacao nibs
- Dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Line a baking tray with baking paper.Add the banana, yogurt, cottage cheese, protein powder and vanilla to a blender or food processor.Blend until completely smooth and creamy.Taste and add a little honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter bark.Pour the mixture onto the prepared tray and spread into an even layer, approximately 1/2 inch thick.Scatter the sliced strawberries and blueberries evenly over the surface, gently pressing them into the mixture. The desiccated coconut goes on top for the white and a little texture. Keep it raw so it stays white, since toasting it browns the whole effect.Add any optional toppings.Place in the freezer for 3–4 hours, or until completely firm.Remove from the freezer and allow to sit for 3–5 minutes before breaking or cutting into pieces.Store the bark in an airtight freezer-safe container.Keep frozen for up to 1 month for the best flavour and texture.
