India, known for its agricultural produce, is also the birthplace of two potent super spices –turmeric and ginger. Renowned for their incredible health benefits, these spices exceeded culinary applications to become wellness powerhouses.

With a vivid, golden hue that shines as bright as the morning sun, turmeric – also known in Latin as “terra merita” – is a plant that everyone may benefit from warm with its mild earthy flavor.

Dating back almost 4,000 years ago, turmeric first gained tremendous popularity in India as a dynamic culinary spice that could instantly turn any food base into a mesmerizing yellow color and is a primary ingredient in pastes, herbal teas, extracts, and curries.

It then became famous for its medicinal properties in China and Africa and in today’s world, turmeric is still considered nature’s golden child and has gained popularity as a superfood with numerous health benefits.

Turmeric is one of the powerful superfoods that can support overall wellness and this vibrant yellow spice has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its powerful healing properties.

Today, one popular way to incorporate turmeric into your diet is by taking turmeric shots. Turmeric has become so popular is now appears in everything from turmeric lattes to ice cream, because of its health potential.

Turmeric shots are potent concentrated small drinks made in a blender, about 3-4 ounces, that boost the immune system, fight disease by reducing inflammation, and improving gut health. I make them using either fresh turmeric root or turmeric powder.

Health Benefits of Turmeric

There is science behind turmeric’s popularity. Turmeric contains a bioactive compound called curcumin which is a known antioxidant with powerful anti-inflammatory effects. These effects help boost immunity, clear up digestion issues, detox, improve blood circulation and more. You should note though to release curcumin from turmeric, black pepper needs to be ingested at the same time hence the black pepper in my recipe. You can use fresh turmeric or turmeric powder in this recipe, although the health benefits using fresh are about twice as strong as when using turmeric powder.

The Benefits Of Adding Turmeric Shots To Your Diet

1 Aids in Digestion: If gut health is on the mind, then turmeric may come to the rescue! Curcumin can give the body a little nudge to activate the digestive tract, which can provide a good ‘flow’ to your day.

2 Antioxidant Effects: Numerous studies have shown that turmeric is one of the most powerful antioxidants around, which may guard the body from certain environmental stressors. Translation: antioxidants support your overall wellness, keeping you strong no matter what season.

3 Radiant Skin: Whether you ingest turmeric or use it topically, it’s been linked to supporting skin health due to its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties! What’s not to love about glowing, radiant skin all year long?

4 Immune Health: Curcumin doesn’t just bolster digestive health, it also supports overall immunity! Based on a study conducted on the impact of curcumin on immune response, there’s a direct correlation between turmeric root and a healthy immune system.

You can buy ready made turmeric shots from grocery stores. They come in various flavors and target various nutritional benefits but are pricey to buy. Making them at home is around a third of the price, making them a much more budget-friendly option.

Fresh and tangy, these turmeric wellness shots are perfect for anyone after a delicious boost of goodness. Easy to make, they will keep in the fridge for a week to provide you with a daily wellness shot! You can even freeze them in an ice cube tray and keep a batch ready to go. When hot water is poured over frozen turmeric ginger ice cubes, they melt to create a soothing hot beverage. Bright, strong and punchy, you will want to sip on this beverage all day long.
