Forget the store bought protein/energy bars, these homemade yogurt pops taste so much better – rich and creamy and it’s packed with nutrients your body actually wants.
I am going to keep the quick healthy recipes going this year with these easy peasy frozen yogurt pops that has endless variations for any sweet tooth! If you are looking for a healthy and delicious way to beat those unhealthy cravings in record time, this is the one to try!
Keep in mind that this recipe is more about thinking outside the box a little bit. To make it, all you need is to use are these 3 base ingredients! Greek-style yogurt, protein powder, and a few of your fav toppings with some suggestions below in this post and in the recipe.
Protein Bark Base Ingredients:
In a mixing bowl, mix together 2 cups of thick Greek-style yogurt (I use one plain and one flavoured and swirl them together) and 1 scoop of protein powder until smooth. Once your mix is smooth, take out a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and pour your mix into it in blobs like thick cookies around 1/2-inch thick. If you don’t have a baking sheet no problem, use a glass dish or the bottom of some silicone muffin cups! The parchment paper will prevent it from sticking and make it easier to remove.
Pro tip! Full fat Greek-style yogurt which is typically higher in protein and much thicker and creamier, will freeze better. Lower fat Greek yogurt that has a more watery consistency may get a bit icy.
From here, your 3rd ingredient for your protein bark arrives! Top it with whatever you are craving which makes this list endless…
Some toppings I like with favorite flavors/textures:
Fresh or dried fruit
Chopped nuts
Seeds like hemp or sesame
Drizzle nut butter
Chocolate chips
Granola
Lastly add a popsicle stick into each one so they are easier to eat. Remember that the flavors you use are completely up to you, just make sure they complement each other. Vanilla Greek yogurt with cookies & cream protein powder, salted caramel Greek yogurt with vanilla protein powder, chocolate Greek yogurt with a mint protein powder, and so on.
Another thing you can do here to level up the recipe is to melt some nut butter or chocolate in the microwave and drizzle it over your popsicles using a spoon, it won’t add too many calories. Last, put it into the freezer for a few hours or until frozen.
I have one of my favourite recipes below to give you an idea of what you can create. You can follow my recipe or create your own masterpiece. My fav add ins are chopped dried strawberries and chocolate chips. They give a pop of flavour and texture that is amazing.
Not only do these yogurt protein pops look pretty, they also taste delicious and are packed with protein. A wonderful way to start the day if you need breakfast on the go, or a great pre gym snack. Or the perfect end to a meal to signal that its time to finish eating.
