I ALWAYS like to end my night with a sweet treat. On a recent particular evening, I made this banana cashew butter dessert. It is essentially banana halves, drizzled with cashew butter, topped with shaved chocolate and a sprinkle of sea salt.

I love the sweet and salty combination and its so insanely easy to make, and it really hits the spot at the end of the night.

Create your own favorite combination and here is some ingredient suggestions to create some magic:

Ripe Bananas – The first essential ingredient you will need for this recipe is ripe but firm bananas.

Cashew Butter – When it comes to cashew butter, there are no rules. Feel free to use as much cashew butter as you want, depending on your mood or nutritional needs. Instead of cashew butter you can definitely use other types of nut butters. How about using peanut butter, almond butter, hazelnut butter or even tahini (sesame seed butter).

Shaved Chocolate – The shaved chocolate is another ingredient that you need to make banana dessert. It just takes it to another level. You can simply shave a chocolate bar or melt chocolate chips and drizzle on top. You can use any chocolate you choose – dark, milk, semi-sweet, white or a mix.

Chocolate Spread (Homemade) – Super rich and creamy, it effortlessly holds its own with any of the chocolate spreads at the grocery store. And yet this homemade version also has fewer than half the calories per serving.

It’s much healthier than store-bought, without sacrificing any of the kid friendly classic chocolate taste that we all know and love. This sugar-free Nutella version is creamy and smooth, with a rich chocolate hazelnut flavor. Homemade recipe link below in notes.

Roasted Nuts – Any roasted nuts – such as peanuts, cashews or almonds can be roasted, chopped up and added on top of the melted chocolate for a delicious chocolate peanut flavor combination.

(Optional) Sea Salt – The sea salt is an optional final ingredient that you can add on top of your banana dessert for an extra strong sweet and salty flavor combo. If you want to get really fancy, you could use flaky salt.

These make a perfect dessert or snack for children too and will encourage them to eat more fresh fruit. You can dress them up by drizzling a thin line of caramel or chocolate syrup over some whipped cream or by adding some sprinkles or shredded coconut or other kid-friendly treats on top.

Start with the basics, have fun in the kitchen, and focus on making dishes that nourish your body and make you feel incredible, without spending a bunch of money, time or effort. You will love this easy and tasty snack recipe.

I have been making sugar-free chocolate spread for well over a decade now. And in fact, I may have been the first person to develop a recipe for it. It was way back in 2011, when I was craving some chocolatey deliciousness and it’s been a favorite ever since.
I was astonished that it was so easy to make my own homemade version. Best of all, I like it even better than the original. Because it is less tooth-achingly sweet, the chocolate hazelnut flavor shines through even more.
My whole family loves this delicious spread. We put it on everything - slathering on toast, drizzling on crêpes, mixing into cookie dough, on pancakes, cheesecake, puddings, smoothies and smoothie bowls  – you name it, we will drizzle this over it.
And....I am also not above spooning it right out of the jar and straight into my mouth.
Its a decadent and healthy addition to breakfast, dessert or healthy snacks.
