What if your next chocolate treat could look like a donut, taste like a little piece of heaven, and give your body something nourishing at the same time?
Meet these Chocolate Covered Berry Protein Donuts! 🍓🍫
They are one of those recipes that look much more complicated than they actually are. There is no baking, no mixing bowls full of complicated ingredients and definitely no need to turn on the oven.
Instead, fresh berries are arranged in a donut mold, covered with a creamy protein-packed yogurt mixture, and finished with a beautiful layer of melted chocolate. Pop them into the freezer, let everything set, then turn them out of the mold. That’s it!
The result is a gorgeous little frozen or chilled treat with juicy berries tucked inside creamy yogurt and a delicious chocolate coating that gives you that unmistakable “I’m eating dessert” feeling. And this is exactly the kind of recipe we love here at Blended Bites.
A Donut… Without the Dough!
Traditional donuts are made from a dough or batter that is usually baked or fried. These little beauties take a completely different approach.
The donut shape comes from a silicone donut mold, while the filling is made from fresh fruit and creamy yogurt. Think of them as a cross between a frozen yogurt bite, a chocolate-covered fruit treat and a donut!
The donut shape makes them especially fun to serve. They are perfect for parties, afternoon snacks, lunchbox treats or whenever you want something a little more special than an ordinary snack. And because they are made ahead and stored in the refrigerator or freezer, they are also wonderfully convenient.
Why Berries?
Berries are the star of these little donuts. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries all work beautifully. You can use one variety or create a colourful combination. Berries bring natural sweetness, juicy texture and plenty of flavour without needing lots of added sugar. They also pair wonderfully with chocolate. The slightly tart flavour of berries cuts through the richness of the chocolate, creating that classic chocolate-and-fruit combination that is hard to resist.
I especially love using a mixture of strawberries and blueberries because the colours look gorgeous when you cut into the finished donuts.
And Then We Add Protein…
This is where these treats become much more than just a pretty dessert. The yogurt is combined with protein powder to create a creamy, satisfying layer that helps turn these donuts into a more balanced snack. Protein is an important part of our everyday nutrition. It helps support muscles and contributes to that satisfied feeling after eating. And there is no need to make protein foods boring!
At Blended Bites, we are all about Addition Eating – adding nourishing ingredients to the foods we already love rather than constantly thinking about what we need to eliminate. So instead of saying, “I can’t have donuts,” we can say, “I’m making a donut that actually gives my body something useful too!”
That is a much more enjoyable way to think about food.
The Chocolate Finish
The final layer of melted chocolate is what takes these from simple yogurt bites to something really special. 🍫 Use your favourite dark, semi-sweet or milk chocolate depending on your preference.
Once the chocolate sets, it creates a thin, satisfying shell around the creamy berry centre. When you bite into one, you get that lovely little snap of chocolate followed by soft yogurt and juicy berries. For an extra-special finish, sprinkle the chocolate with a few chopped freeze-dried berries, shredded coconut, chopped nuts or a tiny pinch of sea salt before it sets.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Berry Protein Donuts
Start by lightly arranging your fresh berries into the cavities of a silicone donut mold. Don’t worry about making them perfect. In fact, the irregular arrangement is part of their charm. Next, stir together Greek yogurt and your favourite protein powder. Vanilla protein powder works particularly well here because it complements both the berries and chocolate.
Spoon the yogurt mixture over the berries, gently pressing it down so it fills all the spaces. Finally, pour melted chocolate over the top. Place the mold into the freezer until completely firm. Once frozen, simply pop the donuts out of the silicone mold.
If you prefer a softer, creamier texture, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before eating.
Easy Ways To Change Them Up
There are so many delicious variations to try!
🍓Strawberry Chocolate: Use sliced strawberries with vanilla yogurt and dark chocolate.
🍇Blueberry Bliss: Use blueberries with vanilla or blueberry protein powder.
🍒Mixed Berry: Combine strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
🥥 Berry Coconut: Add shredded coconut to the yogurt mixture or sprinkle it over the chocolate.
🥜 Chocolate Nut: Add finely chopped almonds or hazelnuts to the chocolate coating.
You can even experiment with different protein powder flavours. Chocolate, vanilla, berry or even coconut can all work beautifully.
A Treat Worth Making
These Chocolate Covered Berry Protein Donuts are proof that healthy eating doesn’t have to mean giving up the foods and flavours you love. They are colourful, creamy, chocolatey, fruity and fun – and they are incredibly easy to make.
Keep a batch in the freezer and you will always have something delicious ready when that sweet craving hits. Because sometimes the best healthy treat is the one that makes you forget you are eating something healthy at all. And that is exactly what these little chocolate-covered beauties do.❤️

Chocolate Covered Berry Protein Donuts
Ingredients
Berry Yogurt Layer
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 2-3 tablespoons vanilla protein powder
- 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh berries, such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries
Chocolate Coating
- 3/4 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil, optional, for smoother melting
Optional Toppings
- Freeze-dried berries
- Shredded coconut
- Chopped nuts
- Flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Prepare the mold: Place a silicone donut mold on a flat tray or plate that will fit into your refrigerator or freezer. In a bowl, mix the Greek yogurt, protein powder, vanilla and maple syrup or honey if using. Stir until smooth and creamy. If the mixture is very thick, add a small splash of milk to loosen it.Arrange the fresh berries evenly around the donut cavities. Slice larger strawberries into smaller pieces so they fit easily.Spoon the protein yogurt mixture over the berries, gently pressing it down to fill the cavities completely. Smooth the tops.Place the mold inthe freezer for about 2–3 hours, or until the yogurt layer is firm.
Chocolate Coating
- Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in small dish and microwave with 20 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together.Remove the donuts from the freezer. Carefully spoon or pour the melted chocolate over each donut, covering the surface. Add any favorite toppings before the chocolate sets.Return the donuts to the freezer for another 10–15 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely hardened.Remove from the mold and let sit for a few minutes before serving for a softer texture.Blended Bites Tips💡Use silicone molds: They make removing the frozen donuts incredibly easy.Don't overfill with berries: Leave enough room for the yogurt to surround the fruit.Choose thick yogurt: Greek yogurt creates a lovely creamy texture and holds the shape well.Adjust the sweetness: Depending on your protein powder and berries, you may not need any additional sweetener.Store in the freezer: Keep the donuts in an airtight container for up to 2–3 weeks for best texture and flavour. These are especially delicious straight from the freezer when the chocolate is crisp and the centre is cold and creamy.
