If you have ever looked at a bowl of Blue Spirulina Protein Fluff and thought, “That can’t possibly be a healthy snack,” you are in for a delicious surprise!
This gorgeous blue treat is light, creamy, fluffy, and packed with protein – but it tastes much more like a fun dessert than a nutritious snack. It is the perfect example of what we love here at Blended Bites: healthy food that does not feel like health food.
Made with fruit or banana, yogurt, protein powder and a little blue spirulina, this easy no-bake treat comes together in just minutes. It is perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or whenever your sweet tooth starts calling.
π What Is Protein Fluff?
Protein fluff is essentially a thick, whipped, mousse-like snack made by blending or whipping a few simple ingredients together. The magic happens when you combine fruit or banana with yogurt and protein powder. The mixture becomes thick, creamy, and airy, creating a texture somewhere between mousse, soft-serve ice cream and whipped cream.
Blue spirulina gives it that beautiful natural blue color without needing artificial food coloring. And don’t worry – the flavor is mild. Blue spirulina does not need to dominate the recipe. A small amount adds gorgeous color while allowing the fruit, yogurt, and protein powder to remain the stars.
π Why You Will Love This Recipe
There are plenty of reasons to keep this one in your healthy-snack rotation.
It’s quick. There is no baking, complicated preparation, or long list of ingredients.
It is protein-rich. Protein powder and yogurt make this much more satisfying than a typical fruit dessert.
It’s naturally colorful. Blue spirulina creates that fun, vibrant color naturally.
It’s customizable. Use banana for extra creaminess or choose your favorite berries or other fruit for a fresher flavor.
It feels indulgent. The fluffy texture makes it feel like you are eating dessert -even though you are filling your bowl with nourishing ingredients.
That’s the Blended Bites philosophy in action.
Choosing Your Fruit
One of the best things about this recipe is that you can change the flavor simply by changing the fruit.
Banana creates an especially creamy, naturally sweet protein fluff. Frozen banana works beautifully if you want a thicker, ice-cream-like consistency.
Blueberries complement the blue spirulina beautifully and create a delicious berry flavor.
Strawberries give you a sweeter, lighter version and create a lovely pinkish-purple shade when combined with the blue spirulina.
Mango adds tropical sweetness and pairs particularly well with coconut yogurt.
You can even combine fruits to create your own signature version.
π₯£ The Simple Ingredient Line-Up
You only need a handful of ingredients. Start with your choice of fruit or banana, then add Greek yogurt or your favorite dairy-free yogurt and protein powder. A small amount of blue spirulina powder provides the vibrant color. You can also add a splash of milk if needed to help everything blend smoothly.
For extra flavor, try adding vanilla extract, cinnamon, coconut, or a squeeze of lemon. And if you like your treats a little sweeter, add a small amount of your favorite natural sweetener.
