Rich, Creamy & Deliciously Indulgent
If you love chocolate mousse, whipped cream and creamy desserts, you are going to want to keep this Chocolate Protein Whipped Cream recipe handy.
It’s rich, fluffy, chocolatey and surprisingly simple to make. With just a few basic ingredients – dairy cream or coconut cream, cocoa powder and protein powder – you can create a luscious chocolate cream that is perfect as a dessert, snack, topping or even a quick protein boost.
Think chocolate mousse meets whipped cream, with a nourishing Blended Bites twist. And because there is no baking involved, it takes just minutes to prepare.
At Blended Bites, we believe healthy eating should be enjoyable. We are not interested in taking all the fun out of food or telling you that desserts are off limits. Instead, we focus on Addition Eating – adding protein, healthy fats and wholesome ingredients to foods that already taste delicious.
This Chocolate Protein Whipped Cream is a perfect example.
Why You Will Love It
The base of this recipe is beautifully simple. Heavy whipping cream produces an airy, rich and luxurious texture. Once whipped, it becomes light and fluffy while still tasting wonderfully decadent.
If you prefer dairy-free options, full-fat coconut cream is an excellent alternative. It creates a thick, creamy consistency with a subtle coconut flavour that works particularly well with chocolate.
Then we add cocoa powder.
Unsweetened cocoa gives the cream a deep chocolate flavour without needing a huge amount of added sweetener. It also gives the whipped cream that gorgeous chocolate colour and rich aroma that makes it feel like a real dessert.
The final key ingredient is protein powder. Protein powder boosts the nutritional value while also helping stabilise the whipped cream. It gives the mixture more body and creates a thicker, mousse-like consistency.
Protein can help support muscle maintenance and recovery and contributes to feelings of fullness. Adding it to a sweet snack is an easy way to make your treats more satisfying.
Instead of having a bowl of ordinary whipped cream that leaves you wanting more, you can enjoy a spoonful of this chocolate version knowing you are also adding protein to your day.
More Than Just Whipped Cream
Of course, you can simply eat this Chocolate Protein Whipped Cream straight from the bowl. And we wouldn’t judge you.
But there are so many other ways to enjoy it.
Spoon it over fresh strawberries or raspberries for a quick chocolate berry dessert.
Use it as a topping for pancakes or waffles.
Add a generous dollop to warm oatmeal.
Layer it with berries and granola to create a simple chocolate parfait.
Spoon it over banana nice cream.
Use it as a filling for protein crepes.
Add it to a smoothie bowl.
Or pipe it into small dollops and freeze them for bite-sized chocolate protein treats.
You can even use it as a healthier frosting for protein muffins or no-bake chocolate bars.
One basic recipe can become dozens of different desserts.
Chocolate Flavour Variations
Once you have mastered the basic recipe, you can have fun creating different flavours.
For Chocolate Mocha, add ½–1 teaspoon instant espresso powder. For Chocolate Orange, add finely grated orange zest. For Mint Chocolate, add a small amount of peppermint extract. For Chocolate Peanut Butter, whip in a tablespoon or two of natural peanut butter. For Chocolate Coconut, use coconut cream and add shredded coconut. For Chocolate Raspberry, swirl through a little freeze-dried raspberry powder. For Rocky Road, fold through chopped nuts and a few mini chocolate chips.
You can also experiment with different protein powders. Chocolate protein powder gives you the deepest chocolate flavour, while vanilla protein powder creates a slightly sweeter, more dessert-like result.
