Dark Chocolate Chili Nut Protein Clusters

Dark Chocolate Chili Nut Protein Clusters

If you love chocolate with a little bit of attitude, these Dark Chocolate Chili Nut Protein Clusters are about to become a favourite. Rich dark chocolate, crunchy nuts, a gentle touch of chili, and a boost of protein come together in these irresistible little bites.

They are sweet, salty, crunchy, slightly spicy, and completely satisfying. Best of all, they require no baking and take only minutes to prepare.

At Blended Bites, we believe healthy eating is about addition, not subtraction. Instead of taking all the fun out of treats, why not add ingredients that nourish your body while still giving you that wonderful feeling of enjoying dessert? These clusters are a perfect example.

Chocolate, Nuts And A Little Heat

The combination of dark chocolate and chili might sound unusual if you haven’t tried it before, but there’s a reason it has become such a popular flavour pairing. The richness of chocolate is beautifully enhanced by a tiny amount of chili. You don’t want these clusters to taste overwhelmingly hot – the goal is simply a gentle warmth that appears after the chocolate hits your tongue.

The nuts provide the perfect contrast. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts can all be used, depending on what you have available. Their natural crunch makes every bite more interesting, while their healthy fats help make these little clusters surprisingly satisfying.

And Then There Is Protein.

Adding protein powder gives these clusters more staying power than ordinary chocolate nut clusters. Protein is an important part of a nourishing diet because it helps support muscles and contributes to keeping you satisfied between meals. It also makes these bites particularly useful after exercise or when you need an afternoon snack that feels like a treat.

Why Dark Chocolate?

Dark chocolate brings an intense cocoa flavour that means you don’t need a huge amount to create something that tastes incredibly decadent. Choose a good-quality dark chocolate that you enjoy eating on its own. The higher the cocoa percentage, the more intense and less sweet the finished clusters will be.

A small pinch of sea salt is another simple ingredient that makes a surprisingly big difference. Salt enhances the chocolate and nuts and helps balance the natural bitterness of dark chocolate.

Easy Enough For Any Day

One of the best things about this recipe is just how easy it is. There is no oven to preheat and no complicated preparation. Simply chop the nuts, melt the chocolate, stir everything together, spoon into little clusters, and chill.

You can make them small for bite-sized treats or slightly larger when you want something more substantial. They are particularly handy to keep in the refrigerator for those moments when you suddenly find yourself craving chocolate.

They also make a lovely homemade treat for entertaining. Arrange them on a platter with fresh berries, coconut, or a few extra nuts and they instantly look much more elaborate than the effort required to make them.

Make Them Your Own

The basic recipe is wonderfully adaptable. Add unsweetened coconut for a tropical twist, sprinkle in cacao nibs for extra crunch, or add a little orange zest for a chocolate-orange version.

If you are sensitive to spice, start with just a tiny pinch of chili powder. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away! Cayenne gives the strongest heat, while a mild chili powder creates a gentler warmth.

These Dark Chocolate Chili Nut Protein Clusters are everything a healthy treat should be: simple, satisfying, nutrient-dense, and genuinely delicious. They are proof that adding protein and wholesome ingredients does not mean giving up indulgence.

Sometimes healthy eating simply means making your chocolate a little more interesting. 🌶️

Servings 10

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips, or chopped chocolate
  • 1 scoop chocolate or unflavoured protein powder
  • 1 cup mixed raw or roasted nuts, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons desiccated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon cacao nibs, optional
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder, or to taste
  • Pinch of sea salt

Optional Toppings

  • Extra chopped nuts
  • Unsweetened coconut
  • Cacao nibs
  • Flaky sea salt
  • A tiny sprinkle of chili powder
  • Freeze-dried raspberries

Instructions

  • Line a baking tray or large plate with parchment paper.
Roughly chop the nuts. Keep some pieces fairly chunky so the clusters have plenty of crunch.
Melt the dark chocolate gently in a heat proof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, or microwave in short intervals, stirring between each.
Remove from the heat and stir in the protein powder until completely smooth.
Add the chopped nuts, coconut, cacao nibs if using, coconut oil, vanilla, chili powder and sea salt.
Stir gently until everything is thoroughly coated in chocolate.
Spoon the mixture onto the prepared tray, creating approximately 10–12 small clusters.
    Top with your chosen toppings.
Refrigerate for 1–2 hours, or until the chocolate has completely set.
Store chilled and enjoy whenever you need a delicious chocolate fix.
    Blended Bites Tips 💡
Start gently with the chili: The heat becomes more noticeable as the clusters set, so begin with a small amount.
Use your favourite nuts: Almonds and cashews create lovely combination, while pecans and walnuts give a softer, richer texture.
For extra protein: You can add another ½ scoop of protein powder, but you may need an extra teaspoon or two of coconut oil to keep the chocolate mixture smooth.
Store the clusters in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
