If you love the combination of rich chocolate and crunchy walnuts, these Chocolate Walnut Protein Bites are going to become a regular in your snack rotation. They are fudgy, chocolatey, slightly chewy, and packed with the goodness of walnuts, oats and protein powder.

Best of all, there is no baking involved.

These little bites come together in just a few minutes, making them perfect for those times when you want something homemade and nourishing without spending hours in the kitchen. Keep a batch in the fridge or freezer and you will always have a wholesome chocolate treat ready when a craving strikes. Think of them as a cross between a chocolate truffle and an energy bite – with a satisfying protein boost thrown in. And that is exactly the kind of treat we love here at Blended Bites.

Why You Will Love These Protein Bites

There are plenty of reasons to make these Chocolate Walnut Protein Bites part of your snack routine. They are:

No bake and easy to make
Packed with protein
Made with wholesome pantry ingredients
Naturally sweetened
Rich and chocolatey
Full of satisfying walnuts and oats
Perfect for meal prep
Freezer-friendly

They are also wonderfully portable. Pop a couple into a container and take them to work, keep them in your gym bag, or pack them into a lunchbox. They are small, but they are surprisingly satisfying.

The Goodness of Walnuts

Walnuts aren’t just here for their delicious crunch. They are also a source of healthy fats, plant-based protein, fibre, and a range of important nutrients. Their slightly earthy flavour works beautifully with cocoa, adding richness and depth to these bites.

You can leave the walnuts fairly chunky if you enjoy a little crunch, or pulse them more finely for a smoother, truffle-like texture. Either way, the combination of walnuts and chocolate is hard to beat.

Oats Add Satisfying Texture

Rolled oats help give these bites structure while adding fibre and a lovely chewy texture. You can use regular rolled oats or quick oats depending on the texture you prefer. If you want the bites to be particularly smooth, simply pulse the oats in your food processor before mixing.

We use dates to sweeten these protein bites. Date-based chocolate nut treats are a perfect healthy option because dates provide natural, caramel-like sweetness and fiber providing a healthier, whole-food alternative, rich in potassium and magnesium, entirely replacing the need for refined white sugar.

The walnuts, oats, dates and protein powder work together to make these more substantial than a traditional chocolate treat.

A Chocolate Treat Without the Fuss

One of the best things about this recipe is how simple it is. There is no oven to preheat, no complicated equipment, and no waiting around for something to bake. Simply blend or mix the ingredients, roll into balls, and chill.

It’s a great recipe to make with children too. They can help mix the ingredients and roll the mixture into bite-sized balls. Don’t worry if they are not perfectly shaped – the rustic homemade look is part of their charm!

Your New Chocolate Snack Staple

These Chocolate Walnut Protein Bites are exactly the kind of recipe you will be glad to have in your back pocket. They are quick, easy, nourishing, and taste like a little chocolate indulgence. They are also a wonderful example of the Blended Bites philosophy: you don’t have to eliminate treats to eat well. Instead, add ingredients that nourish your body – like protein, oats, nuts, dates and cocoa – and create something delicious from them.

Make a batch, stash them in the fridge, and enjoy a little chocolate goodness whenever you need it.

Because healthy snacking should never mean boring snacking. ✨

I love that healthy chocolate nut treats balance rich, heart-healthy fats, plant protein and satisfying crunch of whole nuts. If you have a food processor and a few simple ingredients, its so easy to whip up nutrient-dense treats that keep perfectly in the fridge or freezer:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup soft dates, (if dried and hard, soak for 10 minutes in warm water then drain)
  • 1/3 cup chocolate protein powder
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter or almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk of choice, as needed
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  • Add the walnuts, oats and dates to a food processor. Pulse several times until they are finely chopped but still have a little texture.
    Note: Don't over-process into a nut butter.
Add the chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, nut butter, vanilla extract and sea salt.
Pulse a few times until the mixture starts to come together.
If it seems too dry or crumbly, add milk one tablespoon at a time until you have a soft mixture that holds together when pressed.
Scoop out approximately one tablespoon of mixture and roll between your palms to form a ball.
Continue until all the mixture has been used. You should get approximately 12–16 bites depending on size.
Place the bites in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
Enjoy straight from the fridge or let them sit for a few minutes for a softer texture.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to two months.
    Tips & Variations
Make them extra chocolatey: Add a handful of mini dark chocolate chips to the mixture. Or drizzle with melted dark or white chocolate.
Add coconut: Mix in ¼ cup shredded coconut for a delicious chocolate-coconut version.
Try different nuts: Pecans or almonds work beautifully in place of walnuts.
Add a little crunch: Roll the finished bites in finely chopped walnuts or cacao nibs.
Want more sweetness? Add a tablespoon of maple syrup or honey to taste.
