After seeing recipes like this all over social media, I knew I needed to try it for myself. I love sweet treats, and making them healthy and higher protein to make them more nutritionally balanced is my favorite thing!

If you are craving a creamy, indulgent snack, but want to keep it healthy and high in protein whether it be for a post-workout snack or a fabulous breakfast this recipe for one will satisfy your sweet tooth, without any guilt. All for you, no need for sharing!

It’s crazy how something that never seemed even vaguely appealing is now a staple in our kitchen! Helloooooo, cottage cheese!  Lately, you might have noticed a surge in cottage cheese recipes on social media, from cottage cheese pancakes to homemade cottage cheese ice cream.

I recently learned about whipped cottage cheese and have become hooked on the creamy thick texture plus its a great source of protein. Its unique and versatile because of its mild flavor, high protein content and its ability to be blended into a super creamy texture. There are so many delicious ways to use it.

I often whip up a smoothie as a healthy snack or breakfast, but if I don’t add some sort of protein, I am starving an hour later. I decided to experiment with cottage cheese in my smoothies, and wahoo!! (That’s my excited voice.)

This smoothie is smooth, sweet and creamy and far from the regular texture and flavor of cottage cheese. If you have never had whipped cottage cheese before, it’s a completely different situation than regular cottage cheese. By the time its had a trip through the blender, its mild “cheesy” flavor has turned into the most delicious sweet treat.

It gives this smoothie a huge protein boost, and, better yet, it creates a milkshake-like texture. Talk about a win-win! This strawberry smoothie recipe is hands-down my favorite new “treat.”  (Read: healthy snack, but don’t tell.)

Why you will love this recipe:

High in protein without the need for protein powder = thanks to cottage cheese!
Great way to use up ripe bananas!
Calls for frozen strawberries which you can always have stocked in your freezer.
Versatile – you can customize this recipe with different fruits or flavors. For example: add peanut butter!
Creamy texture thanks to the cottage cheese, which also adds a slight tangy flavor that will remind you of cheesecake!
Perfect for a healthy snack or breakfast on-the-go.
Single serving – this recipe is for one, just for you – no need to share! Just double or triple for extra servings.
Makes a great post-workout snack or meal, as it contains the protein needed for muscle recovery and repair.

Cottage cheese can satisfy your chocolate cravings – yes you heard me right! At this point you have to ask: is there anything cottage cheese can’t do!? The amount of cottage cheese in this recipe provides an incredible 20 + grams of protein, making it a great option for a post-workout snack or a filling breakfast. Plus, with its tangy and sweet flavor, this smoothie might even remind you of a slice of classic Strawberry Cheesecake!

Make it into a milkshake: You can serve the smoothie just as it is, but to take it over the top I like to dress it up with a dollop of whipped coconut cream (recipe below in notes) and a sprinkle of crumbled freeze-dried strawberries. It’s a seriously delicious snack that will make you feel like a kid at an ice cream parlor. Which is pretty much my idea of heaven.
