I am always looking to add more protein to my diet and have found a new best friend – cottage cheese! It has found its way into my smoothies and smoothie bowls. It adds an incredible thick and creamy texture and it has a wonderfully fresh, slightly salty flavour. It is also not as tangy as Greek yogurt, which I normally use in smoothies.
Its no surprise how cottage cheese has found its way into all sorts of healthy recipes recently. It is all the rage these days. It’s a low-carb, high-protein, and super versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed with both sweet and savory dishes.
If you are like me – or most people- the texture of cottage cheese was just never appealing. But my, how things have changed. Cottage cheese is certainly having its moment right now. Thanks to social media, whipped cottage cheese is all the rage.
Cottage cheese is really good for you. Not only is it full of protein and packed with nutrients, but it is low in calories. About 80% of the protein in cottage cheese is casein, which is slowly absorbed by your body, and is ideally consumed before sleep for muscle synthesis.
That makes cottage cheese perfect for smoothies or the ideal evening snack.
Say what you like about cottage cheese, but it’s truly a winner in my books! I know what you are saying to yourself…cottage cheese in a smoothie? Stay with me; this might just change your breakfast game forever.
If you have always associated cottage cheese with diet plates from the ‘70s or the mysterious tub in your grandma’s fridge, it’s time for a rebrand. When blended, this dairy powerhouse transforms into an ultra-creamy, cheesecake-like milkshake-like dream.
The “zing” part of this raspberry smoothie comes from the addition of fresh ginger. The superstar ginger offers numerous health benefits, including aiding digestion, reducing nausea, and easing pain.
It possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that helps lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Ginger can also help fight infections and has been explored for its potential benefits in protecting brain function and improving heart health.
With a spicy flavor, it pairs well with both sweet and savory dishes. Raspberries yield a beautiful pink color but other berries or even pineapple would blend well with the ginger.
Why this recipe works:
Nutritious. This recipe should really be called a cottage cheese protein shake. It contains almost 14 grams of protein per portion! In my opinion, this is a great natural option for protein powder. Add the vitamins from the fruit, and you have got yourself a nutritious and healthy drink that will set you up for the day.
Easy. There are just 6 ingredients in the recipe, and all of them are fridge or pantry staples. Also, it takes minutes to whip up this up and there are limitless ways to adjust it to your own preferences. It is impossible to mess it up.
Loaded with frozen raspberries, banana, almond milk and a couple of dates for sweetness, this smoothie is proof that healthy eating can taste like dessert. Whether you need a grab-and-go breakfast or an excuse to eat something that tastes like raspberry cheesecake at 8 a.m., this cottage cheese smoothie is a winner.
Delicious: Don’t worry if you are not a fan of cottage cheese, you can’t taste it at all. This turns out perfectly cold and creamy with incredible fruity flavor.
You will be delighted when you see it just takes minutes to make this rich, silky, smooth, raspberry smoothie that will instantly make your list of favourites. You could eat this for breakfast, as a snack or a healthy treat or dessert. I can’t wait to try another flavor though it would be hard to beat raspberry in my opinion. Enjoy!
