Make Ahead Smoothie Cubes

This is one of the easiest ways to make your mornings simpler and keep your freezer stocked and ready at all times for quick smoothies. Making smoothie cubes as ice cubes is a game changer for making smoothies quickly and saving time in the morning!
Prepping smoothies is my number one tip for making fruit and vegetable based smoothies and you are ready for lots of tasty combos for the entire week.
Making smoothie cubes is key to making smoothies at home conveniently and it also makes it easier to get extra nutrients in your daily eats. These are ready whenever you want to blend up a smoothie. Simply toss them in the blender with a protein powder and a fave liquid, hit blend, pour, and sip away. Either way! SO GOOD!
You can really use any combination you love for these smoothie cubes. I like to do immunity ones using some greens, chia seeds and pineapple. The pineapple adds so much flavor and is such an underrated fruit to use in smoothies.
Tip: toss in any greens or fruits and powders you love or have on hand! Smoothie cubes are meant to be convenient so do what works best for you.
My personal favorite smoothie cube: Try some frozen coconut cubes in your next smoothie for the ultimate healthy fat boost. Adding healthy fats to smoothies can help nourish your skin and help your body break down the carbs for longer-lasting energy.
With my busy life, I like easy. This recipe delivers! These are healthy fat bombs of goodness. Add some of these cubes to your next smoothie, and watch your hair shine, as well as your skin. Adding healthy fats to your smoothies with coconut cubes helps keep you fuller for longer too!
Here’s how I make mine:
Process one cup raw cashews in the food processor until broken down and finely ground. Doing this before adding other ingredients helps to break them down more before fully blending for a smoother result. Add one 13.5 oz can coconut cream or milk – full fat. Blend again until smooth and creamy.
Fill two, 16-well standard ice cube trays with the blender contents. Gently tap the filled trays on the counter to remove any air bubbles. Place flatly in the freezer for several hours or up to overnight.
Remove the cubes from the trays and store them in freezer-safe bags for up to two months. To use, add two cubes (or more if you like) per serving of smoothie when you are ready to blend the ingredients. I love adding cocoa or cacao powder with some collagen powder to my coconut smoothies for a delicious chocolate creation.
One of the most asked questions is how to turn a smoothie into a meal. My smoothie recipes are chock full of nutrients yet depending on the recipe, it may not include many fats or protein. But for the ones that don’t, that’s where these little cubes come in handy.
Fat and protein help keep our hunger satisfied longer than carbs. When used together, it creates a complete meal. All that fiber in the fruits and leafy greens helps too.
These coconut cubes were created with the goal of adding a serving’s worth of healthy fats plus a little protein too. You can certainly add a serving of your favorite protein powder to any smoothie and use it in conjunction with these cubes.
Hope you take this onboard and revitalise your routine with smoothie cubes at the core – it truly is a burst of frozen freshness in every sip.  So convenient and packed with so much vibrancy you will free that ooooohweeeee feeling that only a healthy smoothie can generate.

Ingredients

Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Cubes

  • 4 cups coconut milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1/2 cup chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1 cup hemp hearts (seeds)
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Place 2 cups milk and chia seeds in a bowl and stir well. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Pour chia gel into a blender jar. Add the other ingredients. Puree until smooth. Add a little more liquid, if needed, for easier blending. The mixture will be very thick with a pudding-like texture.
Transfer the mixture to two standard, 16-well ice cube trays. It’s okay if the mixture overflows the wells a bit, as long as it doesn’t go over the sides of the trays themselves.
Place trays in freezer and freeze overnight, or until completely solid. Pop the cubes out of the trays and place in an airtight, freezer-safe container. Store in freezer for up to 2 months.
To use, add 1 cup liquid and 2 cups your choice of leafy greens to a blender, add 4 chocolate smoothie cubes. Blend until smooth. If not sweet enough, add part of or one whole ripe banana, or a little honey or maple syrup, to taste.
