This is the simplest dessert ever. It really does celebrate simplicity at its best. It’s frozen berries with a hot white chocolate sauce and it really is so good. The hot sauce melts the berries gently and creates wonderful pockets of hot and cold.
This retro restaurant dessert was made famous by The Ivy restaurant chain, and it’s so simple to make at home. Use a mixture of frozen mixed berries and top with a simple hot chocolate sauce.
The clash of temperatures and textures as the sauce slowly warms the berries is hard to beat. It could not be a simpler dessert, simply pour sauce over frozen berries.
The ingredients are very minimal – just frozen berries, white chocolate, cream. It’s an affordable desert as it requires so few ingredients.
What you will need this recipe:
Frozen berries – I like to use a bag of mixed berries. They tend to include raspberries, blackberries and redcurrants. I try to avoid strawberries as they are large and therefore can be a little too frozen for this dessert. But if you have strawberries in your mix you can simply cut them up into quarters.
Double cream – this makes a perfect sauce, it keeps it nice and thick rather than too watery.
White chocolate – use good quality white chocolate for best flavour. Good quality white chocolate is often speckled with vanilla which is delicious in the sauce.
You could use milk or dark chocolate for a different sauce. I prefer white chocolate with the berries but it would be good with another kind of chocolate.
A review on my blog says:
“Completely divine pudding! A puddle of hot creamy sauce topped with the cold and crunchy berries was really delicious. Everyone loved it!”
I’m picking, even though it’s so simple and so quick, frozen berries with hot white chocolate is sure to become a favorite that you will return to time and time again.
Iced Berries With Hot White Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients
- 3 cups 3 cups mixed frozen berries - blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, redcurrants Note: If you use strawberries, cut them up into smaller pieces.
Chocolate Sauce
- 1 cup double or heavy cream
- 1 cup white chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - optional
Instructions
- Pour the cream into a small saucepan and break in the chocolate. Heat very gently, stirring, until the chocolate melts into a smooth sauce. Take care not to overheat or the chocolate will seize into a hard lump. When ready for serving, remove fruit from freezer and fill 4 ramekins or small bowls with mixed frozen fruit. Allow fruit to sit for about 3-5 minutes. Slowly pour hot white chocolate over fruit in each bowl. Serve immediately as the fruits start to defrost.
