Avocado isn’t only for making guacamole or avocado toast. Since it has a mild flavor, it’s great in ice cream, too! If you are looking for a new way to enjoy avocado, this nice cream recipe is the perfect choice. It’s creamy, delicious, and best of all – easy to make.

Inspired by the ice cream of my youth, this version is a no churn ice cream (you don’t need an ice cream maker!) Its rich, smooth  creamy and ever so tasty – perfect for any occasion and the easiest to make ice cream ever.

Fruit-based ice cream may be the original ice cream, but the term has come to represent any fruit-based treat free from loads of sugar and artificial flavors. Its a yummy ice cream made with a frozen fruit (in this recipe its avocados and banana) base and other add-ins!  You simply blitz the pieces of frozen fruit in a food processor and the end result is a whole-food ice cream that is rich, creamy, and luscious enough for a special occasion yet light and easy enough for an any time indulgence.

It’s called ‘nice cream’ rather than ice cream, just to differentiate the two. Nice cream is a super easy, take on traditional ice cream, yet made very differently. It sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Ice-cream just out of fruit – yeah right! About this little concoction, I cannot hold back. It IS amazing. You will need to keep going back and trying it and saying – that can’t be right.

It tastes like ice-cream and it is so damn good! This is definitely one for the recipe bible. You will be in awe of the creamy, fruitful deliciousness before your spoon even begins to melt into the bowl.

You can satisfy an ice cream craving guilt-free with this “nice cream“! Seems so simple, that it feels like you are cheating a bit…but to be honest – it’s delectable stuff. And let’s face it, why make it complicated when something this simple can taste insanely delightful! Once you start making nice cream, you will stop buying store bought ice cream, the creaminess it has is nothing less than any ice cream and the plus point is, it is absolutely healthy!

It’s healthy ice cream! There’s no chemicals, additives or refined sugar added, with plenty of healthy fats and protein to help keep you feeling satisfied.

No ice cream maker required. I’ve tested this recipe both ways, and you can definitely make it without the ice cream maker if you don’t have one. It’s ready to eat in less than 30 minutes if you do have one, though!

It’s naturally green. The avocado adds a beautiful soft green color, with no artificial food dyes.

As well as being really easy to make, this ice cream is healthier than your average treat as it is made with wholesome REAL food ingredients. With the added protein powder it makes it more balanced than the traditional high carb recipes.

Your body can only absorb around 25-30 grams of protein at one time and you  likely need 80-100 plus grams a day so its important to spread it over all meals and snacks throughout the day so you can meet your required amount.

Avocado nice cream variations:

Want to make this into a mint chocolate chip ice cream? Add 2 or 3 mint leaves and fold in chocolate chips at the end!

Craving something chocolatey? Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa or cacao powder.

Want to add a citrus flavor to it? Blend 1 tablespoon of lemon zest or orange zest, or combination of the two into the blender.

Love nuts? Chop them finely and fold them in right before freezing. I love adding pistachios or almonds to this.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, frozen
  • 1 banana, sliced, frozen
  • 1 13.5 oz can full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup protein or collagen peptides powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut

Toppings Optional

  • Fresh fruit or berries
  • Chopped nuts
  • Seeds like hemp or chia

Instructions

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the avocados, banana, coconut milk,   honey, protein powder, vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and creamy.
    Taste test and add more honey or vanilla if you think it needs it. Stir in the shredded coconut.
    Serve as is for a soft serve version or pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container, cover and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
    For a softer texture, you can freeze for a shorter time and stir every hour.
    Once frozen, scoop the ice cream into bowls and top with fresh fruit and   chopped nuts.
