These super simple 4-ingredient almond date chocolate balls are a wonderful snack that are a combination of nutty, caramel, fudgy bites that are part truffle part bliss ball. A wonderful snack to have in the fridge for when you want something indulgent but not too sweet.
I had a few things to use up in the panty and wanted to create a very simple 4 ingredient bite that anyone could whip up. Dates, a bit of extra healthy fat in the form of almond butter and dark chocolate- simple, yeah?
Easy to find, wholesome ingredients and so ridiculously simple to make.
I love that almonds offer more fiber and calcium than other tree nuts in a 1-ounce serving. The fiber can help you feel full for longer, while calcium supports healthy bones. Almonds also help lower your cholesterol.
Dark chocolate contains flavonoids—an antioxidant that has various health benefits, including improved heart health. Dark chocolate is a good source of iron, while the magnesium in chocolate could help reduce menstrual cramping.
There is coconut oil in this recipe as coconut is considered one of the healthiest foods on the planet. The oil is perhaps the most versatile and the most valuable. The oil is used for food, medicine, and numerous industrial purposes.
It makes an excellent cooking oil with medicinal properties equivalent to that of dozens of medications, without any adverse side effects. It is no wonder that coconut tree is considered as the “tree of life” in many tropical locations.
Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats not only increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL cholesterol) in your body, but also help convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterol.
Coconut oil is a renewable natural resource that is far healthier and environmentally friendly than other vegetable oils and using it as we do here is an easy way to cut back on added sugar,
With simple ingredients, these sweet, no bake treats are a breeze to whip up, and make for a quick, portable dessert or snack. Great to have on hand for a busy week and they taste great to start your day or virtually any time!
Energy or snack balls are such a healthy on-the-go snack, usually comprised of oats, coconut or almond flour, some sort of nut butter, a sticky binder like honey, and basically any additions under the sun (like fruit or nuts).
I love to add in flax seeds, hemp hearts or chia seeds as well! They take just minutes to prep, can last 2 weeks in the refrigerator or in the freezer forever (or until you remember they are in there and immediately eat them…..), and are endlessly adaptable to your favourite flavours.
Let me ask, have you jumped on the energy bite/protein/bar/ball craze yet? The ones made with dates/nuts/seeds/oats/other healthy goodness? I have been making these healthy treats for years and never get tired of them.
Moreish snack balls, snack bars, bliss balls, truffles, energy bites, call them what you like. They are a perfect little nutrient-dense bite for a satisfying and are seriously SO GOOD. They make the perfect gift for any of your health-conscious or friends too.
There are so many reasons to love them! Whoever is responsible for the idea that we should mash a bunch of healthy ingredients into one little ball or bar as a snack is an absolute genius in my book.
Little spheres of snacking. Little orbs of awesomeness.
Almond Date Chocolate Snack Balls
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups dates, soaked 30 minutes and drained
- 3/4 cup almond butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Chocolate Coating
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions
- Place dates into a food processor along with the almond butter and coconut oil and process until well combined. Be careful not to over process as its nice to have texture variance and different sized “bits” of dates in your snack balls. You are not aiming for a smooth paste.Take a spoon and measure approximately 1 tablespoon lots of the date mixture. Roll into 12 balls or little log shapes or any shape you desire. Place onto a lined tray. Repeat with remaining mixture then place into the fridge for 1+ hours or until firm and cold to touch. When the date mixture has set melt the chocolate.
Chocolate Coating
- Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in small dish and microwave at 50% power with 30 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together.Remove the date balls from the fridge and either skewer each ball or use 2 forks to hold each one and dip into the melted chocolate, then place on a rack to dry. Or you can simply hold each ball over the melted chocolate and spoon it over letting any excess drip back into the bowl.Repeat until all the date balls have been coated. If you have any left over chocolate simply drizzle it over the snack balls.Top with flaky sea salt if you wish and place back into the fridge to set.Once chocolate is set and crisp, enjoy your chocolate date snack balls. To store, place in an airtight container and store in the fridge (up to 3 weeks) or the freezer (up to 3 months).
