Why Is Protein Important?
Protein does much more than help build muscle. It is needed for the growth and repair of body tissues and plays an important role in maintaining muscle mass throughout life.
Including protein in snacks can also help make them more satisfying, particularly when combined with other nourishing ingredients. This can be useful when you want a snack that offers more than just a quick sweet hit.
In this recipe, Greek yoghurt provides creaminess and protein, while protein powder adds another boost. Choose a chocolate or vanilla protein powder you enjoy, depending on how rich you want the chocolate flavour to be.
Of course, protein needs vary from person to person, but finding enjoyable ways to include it throughout the day can be a practical part of a balanced eating pattern. And here is the best part: you do not need to eat bland food to nourish your body. These bites show how a little creativity can turn everyday ingredients into something special!
The Secret To A Creamy Frozen Centre
The key to these bites is creating a thick yoghurt mixture before freezing. Greek yoghurt works particularly well because it has a naturally creamy texture. Cocoa powder brings the chocolate flavour, while protein powder helps thicken the mixture and adds extra protein. A small amount of natural sweetener, such as maple syrup or honey, can balance the bitterness of the cocoa. You can adjust the sweetness to suit your taste.
For extra texture, stir in a few mini chocolate chips or finely chopped dark chocolate before shaping the bites. Once frozen, the centres become firm and refreshing. Allow them to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before eating if you prefer a softer, creamier texture.
Creating The Chocolate Shell
The chocolate coating is what makes these little bites extra special. Melted chocolate creates a crisp outer layer that contrasts beautifully with the creamy frozen centre. Adding a little coconut oil helps thin the melted chocolate, making it easier to dip the bites and create a smooth coating.
Work quickly when dipping, as the frozen centres will help the chocolate set. Place the coated bites back on a lined tray and return them to the freezer until the shell is firm. For an extra chocolatey finish, drizzle a little additional melted chocolate over the top.
Blended Bites Tips And Variations
Make them sweeter: Add a little maple syrup or honey to the yoghurt mixture, tasting as you go.
Try different flavours: Add a splash of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon or a little instant coffee for a mocha-inspired variation.
Change the coating: Use dark, milk, white or dairy-free chocolate, depending on your preferences.
Make them your own: A few finely chopped nuts or mini chocolate chips add texture to the creamy centre.
Store for later: Keep the bites in an airtight container in the freezer. They make a convenient little treat whenever a chocolate craving strikes.

Chocolate Frozen Yogurt Protein Bites
Ingredients
Chocolate Yoghurt Centre
- 1 cup thick Greek yoghurt
- 1/4 cup chocolate or vanilla protein powder
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips or finely chopped dark chocolate
Chocolate Coating
- 1 cup dark or milk chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions
Chocolate Yoghurt Centre
- Add the Greek yoghurt, protein powder, cocoa powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract to a bowl. Stir until smooth and thick. If the mixture seems too soft, add a little extra protein powder.Fold the mini chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate through the mixture.Line a small tray with baking paper. Spoon the mixture into eight small mounds or silicone moulds, shaping them into rounded bites. Keep them small enough to coat easily.Place the tray in the freezer for 2–3 hours, or until the centres are firm enough to handle.
Chocolate Coating
- Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in small dish and microwave with 20 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together.Allow the chocolate to cool slightly.Remove the frozen centres from the tray. Dip each one into the melted chocolate, allowing excess coating to drip off. Place them back on the lined tray.Return the bites to the freezer until the chocolate coating is firm. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before eating for a creamier centre.Notes:Protein powder: Different brands absorb liquid differently. If your mixture is too soft to shape, add a little more protein powder.Sweetness: Adjust the maple syrup or honey to suit your taste and the sweetness of your protein powder.Storage: Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month for best quality.Serving: Allow the bites to soften slightly before eating. The centres will be firm straight from the freezer.Dairy-free option: Use a thick plant-based yoghurt, a suitable plant-based protein powder and dairy-free chocolate. The texture may vary depending on the products used.
