Creamy, refreshing and packed with protein – dessert vibes in a glass
What if you could have the delicious flavour of lemon cream pie for breakfast? Or afternoon tea? Or even a post-workout snack?
This Lemon Cream Pie Protein Shake makes it possible. It is creamy, bright, naturally sweet and wonderfully refreshing, with that unmistakable combination of tangy lemon and smooth vanilla creaminess. And because it is made with frozen banana or pineapple and protein powder, it is substantial enough to be more than just a drink.
This is one of those Blended Bites recipes where healthy eating does not mean giving anything up. Instead, we are adding delicious, nourishing ingredients to create something that tastes like dessert while giving your body plenty of goodness.
No baking. No complicated ingredients. Just blend and enjoy.
Why You Will Love This Lemon Protein Shake
The secret to the creamy, almost dessert-like texture is frozen fruit. Frozen banana gives the shake a thick, silky texture and natural sweetness. It also creates that lovely creaminess that makes the shake feel much more like a milkshake than an ordinary smoothie.
If you prefer a lighter, fresher flavour, frozen pineapple is a fantastic alternative. Pineapple brings extra tropical sweetness and a delicious tartness that works beautifully with fresh lemon.
Then comes the protein powder. A scoop of vanilla protein powder adds a creamy flavour and turns this refreshing smoothie into a more satisfying protein-rich snack. It also means you do not need to rely on lots of added ingredients to make the shake filling. Greek yogurt adds another layer of creaminess and protein while giving the shake a subtle cheesecake-like tang. If you are dairy-free, simply use a thick dairy-free yogurt and plant-based protein powder.
And, of course, we cannot forget the lemon!
Fresh lemon juice provides that unmistakable citrus zing, while finely grated lemon zest gives the shake an even more intense lemon flavour. Don’t skip the zest – that is where so much of the aromatic lemon goodness lives.
It Tastes Like Lemon Pie!
What makes this shake particularly fun is the flavour combination. You get the bright freshness of lemon, the creamy sweetness of vanilla, and the rich texture of frozen fruit and yogurt. Together, they create something that feels surprisingly similar to lemon cream pie.
For an extra dessert-like experience, pour the shake into a beautiful glass and finish it with a little lemon zest, a dollop of Greek yogurt or coconut cream, and a sprinkle of crushed nuts. You could even add a spoonful of homemade granola on top.
Now you are talking!
A Delicious Way To Add More Protein
Protein doesn’t have to mean eating the same chicken breast, boiled eggs or protein bar every day. Smoothies and shakes are another easy way to include protein in your day – and they are particularly useful when you do not feel like eating a large meal.
This Lemon Cream Pie Protein Shake is perfect for breakfast, especially on busy mornings when you need something quick. It is also lovely after exercise, as an afternoon snack, or whenever you want something sweet and refreshing.
And because everything goes into the blender, it is ready in minutes.
That is my kind of recipe.
