Looking for healthy protein snacks with nuts that are delicious enough to feel like a treat? You are in the right place!
Nuts are one of the most versatile ingredients you can add to homemade snacks and desserts. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, peanuts, macadamias and other nuts can bring creamy richness, satisfying crunch and plenty of natural flavour to all kinds of high-protein snacks and treats.
And when you combine them with ingredients such as protein powder, dates, coconut, cacao, yogurt, seeds and natural sweeteners, something wonderful happens.
Simple ingredients become delicious little treats that can be enjoyed any time of the day.
At Blended Bites, we love recipes that taste indulgent while still giving your body something nourishing. That is why yo will find plenty of no-bake protein snacks with nuts in this collection. Think creamy peanut butter bites, chocolate almond treats, cashew protein fudge, nutty protein balls, crunchy clusters and delicious bars you can keep ready in the refrigerator or freezer.
They are nutritious, satisfying and seriously delicious.
Why Add Nuts To Protein Snacks?
Nuts are a natural fit for homemade protein snacks. They contain protein along with healthy fats, fibre and a range of vitamins and minerals. Their combination of fat and protein can also help make a snack feel more satisfying.
But nutrition is not the only reason we love them.
Nuts taste amazing!
Their natural richness works beautifully with chocolate, fruit, coconut, dates, maple, honey and vanilla. And different nuts bring completely different personalities to a recipe.
Almonds are slightly sweet and wonderfully versatile.
Cashews are creamy and mild, making them perfect for smooth spreads and no-bake fillings.
Walnuts have a richer, slightly earthy flavour that works beautifully with chocolate and dates.
Pecans bring a naturally buttery flavour.
Macadamias are incredibly creamy and luxurious.
And, of course, peanuts bring that classic flavour we all know and love.
Nut Butter Makes Everything Better
One of the easiest ways to add nuts to a protein snack is through nut butter. Peanut butter, almond butter and cashew butter can become the creamy base for countless recipes. Combine nut butter with protein powder and a little liquid and you have got an easy protein spread. Add dates and oats and you can create soft, chewy protein balls.
Mix nut butter with melted chocolate and coconut and you have got the beginnings of a delicious no-bake treat. Or simply spoon it over fruit, yogurt or a smoothie bowl.
It’s one ingredient with endless possibilities.
Nuts + Chocolate = A Perfect Pair
If there is one combination that never disappoints, it is nuts and chocolate.
Dark chocolate and almonds.
Chocolate and hazelnuts.
Peanut butter and chocolate.
Chocolate-covered cashews.
Walnuts with cacao and dates.
There is something about the creamy or crunchy texture of nuts combined with rich chocolate that makes even the simplest snack feel decadent. And that is exactly what we want at Blended Bites. Healthy food should not have to look or taste boring.
Easy No-Bake Nut Protein Snacks
Many of the recipes in this collection are no-bake protein snacks, making them especially easy to prepare. There is no oven to preheat and no complicated baking techniques to master. Instead, you will often be blending, stirring, pressing, layering, chilling or freezing.
Some recipes can be ready in minutes. Others simply need a little time in the refrigerator or freezer to firm up. This makes them ideal for busy days when you want something homemade without spending hours in the kitchen.
Nuts Make Wonderful Protein Bites
Protein balls and bites are another great way to use nuts.
A food processor can turn nuts and dates into a wonderfully sticky mixture that can then be combined with protein powder, cocoa, coconut or other favourite ingredients. Roll the mixture into balls or press it into a pan and slice into bars.
For something different, use a silicone candy mold or ice cube tray to create miniature protein treats. Small bites are perfect when you want something sweet without making an entire dessert.
Don’t Forget The Crunch
Not every nut-based snack needs to be smooth and creamy. Sometimes it’s the crunch that makes a recipe special. Try adding chopped nuts to protein bars, frozen yogurt bites, chocolate bark or clusters.
You can also sprinkle toasted almonds, walnuts, pecans or coconut over yogurt bowls and protein puddings. That contrast between creamy and crunchy textures can make a simple snack much more satisfying.
Why Add Protein?
Nuts naturally contribute protein, but adding protein powder to a recipe can provide an additional protein boost. Protein is an important nutrient that helps support muscle maintenance and repair and can contribute to that satisfied feeling after eating. But we do not believe protein needs to mean boring shakes and restrictive eating.
At Blended Bites, our philosophy is Addition Eating.
Instead of starting with what you need to remove from your diet, think about what you can add.
Add protein.
Add nuts.
Add fruit.
Add seeds.
Add nourishing fats.
And most importantly, add flavour!
That is how healthy eating becomes something enjoyable rather than something you have to endure.
Make Your Own Nutty Combinations
Once you start experimenting, you will discover just how versatile nuts can be.
Try:
Almond + chocolate + coconut
Peanut butter + banana + cacao
Cashew + maple + vanilla
Walnut + date + chocolate
Pecan + cinnamon + maple
Macadamia + coconut + white chocolate
You can use these combinations in protein balls, bars, bites, fudge, spreads, frozen treats and desserts.
There really are no limits.
Keep A Batch Ready
One of my favourite things about homemade protein snacks is being prepared. Make a batch at the weekend, pop them into an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator or freezer. Then when you want something sweet, you don’t have to start from scratch. There is already something delicious waiting.
Grab a protein ball.
Take a frozen bite.
Spread some nut butter on apple slices.
Add a handful of nuts to yogurt.
Simple choices can make nourishing snacks much easier.
