There is something irresistible about a bowl of creamy soft-serve on a warm day. It is cool, refreshing, smooth, and satisfying – but traditional soft-serve is often loaded with sugar, cream, and ingredients you probably wouldn’t stock in your pantry.
That’s where this Pineapple Banana Protein Whip comes in.
Made with just frozen pineapple, frozen banana, protein powder, and creamy coconut milk, this tropical-inspired dessert delivers all the luscious texture of soft-serve ice cream while nourishing your body with wholesome ingredients. It’s naturally sweet, packed with fruit, and boosted with protein, making it a treat you can enjoy any day of the week.
At Blended Bites, we believe healthy eating should not feel restrictive. We love creating recipes that satisfy your sweet tooth while giving your body something good in return. This Protein Whip is a perfect example.
What Is a Protein Whip?
Think of it as the love child of a smoothie and soft-serve ice cream.
Unlike traditional ice cream, which relies on heavy cream and refined sugar for its creamy texture, a protein whip gets its richness from frozen fruit blended with just enough liquid to create a thick, velvety consistency.
Because the fruit is frozen, the mixture becomes incredibly creamy without needing an ice cream maker. The result is a dessert that is light, refreshing, naturally sweet, and ready in just a few minutes.
Why Pineapple and Banana?
Pineapple and banana are a classic tropical combination.
Frozen banana is the secret ingredient that creates the smooth, silky texture. Its natural starches blend into an almost ice cream-like consistency, making it the perfect healthy dessert base.
Pineapple adds a burst of bright tropical flavour and natural sweetness, along with vitamin C, antioxidants, and digestive enzymes such as bromelain. Its slight tanginess balances the sweetness of the banana beautifully, creating a dessert that’s refreshing rather than overly sweet.
Together they create a flavour that tastes like a tropical holiday in every spoonful.
Why Add Protein?
Adding protein transforms this recipe from simply being a fruity dessert into something much more satisfying.
Protein helps slow digestion, helping you stay fuller for longer while supporting stable energy levels. It’s also essential for building and maintaining muscle, making this Protein Whip an ideal post-workout snack or afternoon pick-me-up.
Instead of reaching for sugary desserts that leave you hungry again soon after, you’re enjoying something that works with your body – not against it. Using a good-quality vanilla protein powder also adds extra creaminess and enhances the natural tropical flavours.
Coconut Milk Makes It Extra Creamy
While frozen fruit provides most of the texture, coconut milk is what gives this Protein Whip its luxurious finish.
Just a small amount helps everything blend smoothly while adding a subtle coconut flavour that pairs perfectly with pineapple and banana. Choose full-fat coconut milk if you love an extra-rich texture, or use light coconut milk for a slightly lighter dessert. Either works beautifully.
Endless Ways to Enjoy It
One of the best things about this recipe is how versatile it is. Serve it immediately as a thick soft-serve dessert, or spoon it into bowls and top with toasted coconut, chopped macadamias, fresh pineapple, kiwi fruit, passionfruit, or crunchy granola.
You can even pour the mixture into popsicle moulds for healthy frozen treats or freeze it for 20-30 minutes if you prefer a firmer consistency.
Whether you are cooling down on a hot afternoon, looking for a nourishing dessert, or simply craving something sweet, this Protein Whip delivers all the creamy satisfaction of ice cream with ingredients that love you back.
Healthy really can taste this good. 💛
