Spread the love

If you love brownies but also love snacks that actually fuel you, these no bake Black Bean Protein Brownie Bites are about to become a staple in your fridge. They are deeply chocolatey, soft and fudgy, packed with protein and fibre – yet a super healthy chocolate treat free of refined sugar. You would absolutely never guess one of the key ingredients is black beans.

These brownie bites are proof that healthy treats don’t need to be complicated or compromise on flavour. With no oven required and just a handful of simple ingredients, they come together quickly and satisfy that rich chocolate craving in a much more nourishing way than traditional brownies.

At Blended Bites, we are all about finding smarter ways to enjoy the foods we love, and this recipe is a perfect example. Black beans might sound surprising in a brownie, but they are incredibly neutral in flavour and create a naturally dense, moist texture. They also add plant-based protein, fibre, and slow-digesting carbohydrates that help keep you fuller for longer.

Combined with cocoa powder, nut butter, and a touch of natural sweetness, the beans completely disappear into the background – leaving behind a brownie bite that tastes indulgent, not “healthy.” Add protein powder, and you have got a snack that supports steady energy, balanced blood sugar, and post-workout recovery.

These brownie bites are ideal for those moments when you want something sweet but don’t want a sugar crash. They are rich enough to feel like dessert, yet nourishing enough to enjoy as a mid-afternoon snack or after dinner treat. Because they are bite-sized, they are also great for mindful snacking – one or two is often all you need.

Another reason to love this recipe is how versatile it is. You can use almond butter, peanut butter, or even sunflower seed butter to suit your needs. Add chocolate chips for extra indulgence, a pinch of espresso powder to deepen the chocolate flavour, or a dash of cinnamon for warmth. However you customise them, the base stays soft, fudgy, and satisfying.

These no bake brownie bites are also perfect for meal prep. They store beautifully in the fridge or freezer, making them an easy grab-and-go option when cravings hit. Keep a batch on hand and you will always have a nourishing chocolate fix ready – no baking, no mess, and no guilt.

If you are sceptical about beans in dessert, this is the recipe that will change your mind. Rich, chocolatey, and surprisingly wholesome, these black bean protein brownie bites are a delicious reminder that healthy eating can still feel indulgent. ✨

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked black beans, rinsed and drained well
  • 1/2 cup almond butter or peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup chocolate or vanilla protein powder
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch sea salt

Chocolate Topping

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or cacao nibs
  • 1-2 tablespoons almond milk (if mixture is too thick)
  • Pinch of espresso powder (for deeper chocolate flavour)

Instructions

  • Add black beans to a food processor and blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
Add nut butter, maple syrup, cocoa powder, protein powder, vanilla, and salt.
Process until the mixture is thick, smooth, and brownie-like.
If the mixture feels too thick or dry, add almond milk one tablespoon at a time until it reaches a soft, scoopable consistency.
Pulse in any optional add-ins, or stir them through by hand.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into bite-sized balls. Place on a lined plate or tray or use a silicon snack mold and press brownie batter into mold, filling wells halfway.
Chill in the fridge for 20–30 minutes to firm up while you melt the chocolate topping.

Chocolate Topping

  • Place chocolate chips in a small dish and microwave with 15 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.
Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips.
Once melted add the milk and with a spoon place a dollop on top of each bite or add the mixture to a frosting bag and pipe on top of each bite.
Freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
Store brownie bites in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or freezer for up to 3 months.
