Chocolate Covered Banana Protein Bites

Spread the love

I have a simply delicious simple little treat to be shared today and I’m ALL ABOUT IT! Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Protein Bites, like a mini ice cream bar, but much simpler and much healthier.

These treats are so easy to make with only 6 core ingredients and zero baking, nothing not to love! Frozen banana bites with your favorite assortment of toppings, covered in chocolate, and finished with a dusting of flaky sea salt.

Let your taste buds run wild with fun toppings. Peanut butter, pretzels, honey, coffee, coconut, jam, and cinnamon sugar are just some of the ideas I came up with. But really, the options are endless. Create your favorite combination. These bites are so delicious, they are the perfect healthy any time treat! All you have to do is cut up ripe bananas, dip them in a protein yogurt mixture, freeze them and then coat them in melted dark chocolate. It’s that easy!

This “recipe” is hardly a set of instructions and really more of an insistence that you NEED these in your life today. I bet you even have all of the ingredients waiting for you in your kitchen already. The chocolate coating is simple – chocolate chips with a little bit of coconut oil mixed in (this helps get the chocolate extra creamy and runny for dipping).

The banana bites are then dipped into the chocolate and topped with nuts or sprinkles if desired. I love putting bits of peanuts on mine because it gives the treat almost a snickers tasty to it that is SO so satisfying to me! AND that’s it. As I mentioned, these are great stored in the freezer so that they serve as a little (n)ice cream bite when I need one 🙂

They are the perfect healthy snack or dessert – easy to make, no bake and kid friendly (adult friendly too). They satisfy your sweet tooth, but don’t contain any added sugar or sweeteners.

Why you will love these frozen banana yogurt protein bites:

Nutrient-rich – made with real, whole food ingredients
Protein-rich and low in sugar
Healthy and delicious
Great to meal prep ahead

I LOVE making freezer desserts! They are perfect because they stay fresh in the freezer and are easy to grab at a moment’s notice! This classic recipe seriously couldn’t be easier. It only requires simple ingredients (that you might already have on hand) and can be prepped in just 15 minutes. The best part about this recipe is that these frozen bites last for up to 3 months in the freezer when stored in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag.

This recipe is the perfect combination of sweet and salty and one you can feel good about enjoying! Plus, it has healthy fats (coconut oil) and has great complex carbs (and potassium!) from the bananas for the best healthy dessert recipe. The perfect bite any time of day!

I also love sprinkling a little sea salt on top to really take the sweet and salty combo to the next level! This healthy recipe is also a great way to use up extra bananas.

A classic treat! These Frozen Banana Bites are the best healthy sweet bite! They are perfect for curbing your afternoon sweet tooth or delicious for dessert! You can’t go wrong with this freezer snack!

Ingredients

  • 2-3 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup thick Greek-style yogurt, plain or vanilla
  • 1 scoop protein or collagen peptides powder, plain or vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Toppings Optional

  • Peanut butter
  • Chopped nuts
  • Chopped fresh or dried fruit
  • Coconut shreds
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.
Peel bananas and cut into 1 inch thick slices.
In a small bowl, mix together the yogurt, proteinpowder and vanilla extract.
Take the banana slices and dip them, one at a timeinto the yogurt mixture. Then place them on the lined baking sheet.
Once all of the banana slices have been coated, place them in the freezer for 1-2 hours to set.
Once frozen, melt the chocolate and coconut oil for dipping.

Chocolate Coating

  • Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in small dish and microwave with 20 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.
Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together.
Remove the bites and after checking they are firm and set, use two forks to hold each banana bite and one by one, dip into the melted chocolate and roll around until fully coated.
Or hold each one with a fork over the melted chocolate and spoon it over letting the excess drip back into the bowl.
Place them back on the lined baking sheet and top them with your choice of toppings before the chocolate has set. Some fun toppings include: flaked salt, cinnamon, coconut shreds, chocolate chips, sprinkles or chopped nuts/seeds.
Then chill until chocolate has set.
Once chocolate is set and crisp, enjoy your homemade Banana Protein Bites.
