I am one of those people that can have ice cream or frozen yogurt all year round, winter, summer, hot, cold. It doesn’t matter! Delicious but healthy snacks and treats are on my radar every single day. I don’t think I can ever finish a meal without a ‘lil something’ sweet to finish it off.
So rather than trying to cramp my “sweet tooth” style by dialing back on the treats I love…what do I do?
Try to find a way to make them healthier! And by healthier, I mean clean ingredients (ie not processed) and each meal or snack to be balanced which means it needs to have macro balance (protein, carbohydrate, healthy fats).
This is not about calorie counting: It’s about paying attention to key nutrients and taking in the daily recommended portion your body needs to maintain your energy levels and overall wellbeing.
What are three reasons why proteins are important in a healthy balanced diet?
Eating high-protein foods has many health and fitness benefits, including:
Speeding recovery after exercise and/or injury
Reducing muscle loss
Building lean muscle
Helping maintain a healthy weight
Curbing hunger.
A well-balanced diet with proper ratios of macro nutrients (protein, healthy carbs and fats) provides all of the:
Energy you need to keep active throughout the day
Nutrients you need for growth and repair
Helping you to stay strong and healthy and
Help to prevent diet-related illness.
When you find your optimal balance and amounts of macro nutrients, you take a major step toward reaching your health goals and this balance has been improved in this recipe by the addition of healthy protein.
And this nice cream recipe is no different and ticks all the boxes of being healthy AND balanced. A perfect treat with half the calories of store bought ice cream. Then I can feel really good about eating it often, like every day if I like.
Making your own homemade ice cream is a fun and delicious activity. Strawberry ice cream is a great choice. It’s the world’s third most popular ice cream. It falls behind chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
One thing I love just as much as ice cream is NICE CREAM. What is nice cream? Nice cream is a healthier version of ice cream that has a base of frozen fruit!
With a little bit of planning you can create a rich and creamy treat that tastes better than anything you can find in a grocery store. All you have to do is slice those nanners, freeze them, and you are ready to go!
There are so many nice cream recipes on the internet today and they are all made from many different fruit combinations. All fruit combinations would work, but my favorite nice cream fruit base is definitely frozen bananas like this recipe.
You can absolutely satisfy your sweet tooth by whipping up a batch of this Nice Cream! All you have to do is throw all of the ingredients into the food processor and you have got yourself a protein-packed dessert in under 10 minutes! Have a bowl of this strawberry banana nice cream after a workout or for dessert.
It is everything you are craving and more! Creamy, cold, satisfying and satiating, you never knew good for you strawberry “ice cream” could taste so good! Made from wholesome, natural ingredients without added sugar, it’s a treat you can feel good about feeding yourself and everyone in your family!

- 2 cups strawberries, frozen
- 1 banana, sliced, frozen
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 scoops protein or collagen peptides powder
- 1/4 cup cashew (or any other nut) butter
- 3 dates, pitted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
- Fresh or freeze dried fruit or berries
- Chopped nuts
- Shredded coconut
- Chocolate chips
- Drizzle nut butter
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Serve immediately for a soft frozen yogurt or freeze in an airtight container for 30-45 minutes to be able to create round scoops. If you leave it in the freezer too long, it will become too hard to scoop. In that case, just let it sit out until it softens.
