Snickers Bars – a chocolatey, nutty, and crunchy delight! I know I’m being biased…but these bars are AMAZING! I confess to having a weakness for Snickers bars, so I thought I’d make my own using all my favourite ingredients.
Hands up if Snickers were on your top 5 fav chockie bars as a kid? (my hand is riding high). This healthy remake is even better! Think rich chewy base, buttery caramel inner, rich choc top, and crunchy roasted peanuts. That first bite tastes like heaven!
This recipe is a firm favorite between family and friends. After trying quite a few snickers bars inspired recipes (ahem, by a few I mean LOTS!) this one is definitely closest to the original and I can honestly say is the best homemade snickers inspired slice I have tasted.
If you are looking for a sweet treat that is rich and decadent, and still be surprisingly good for you, these delightful bars are just what you need. Not only do they satisfy your sweet tooth, but they also offer a healthier alternative to traditional desserts.
Unlike most sweets loaded with refined sugar and unhealthy fats, these bars are made with wholesome ingredients. The peanut butter and coconut oil provide a good source of healthy fats and fiber and instead of using sugar like traditional caramel, this recipe uses dates! Not only is it easier, it’s also much healthier, with all the sweetness coming from the dates.
Why Dates?
Dates are a super fruit! They are a great source of nutrients and vitamins such as potassium, magnesium, vitamins B6 and K, calcium and iron, which contribute to various health benefits. They also provide a natural energy boost and are low on the glycemic index so your blood sugar won’t spike when eating them.

Healthier Snickers-Inspired Slice
Ingredients
- 12-16 fresh, Medjool dates (or other soft dates)
- 3/4 cup peanut (or any other nut or seed) butter
- 3/4 cup peanuts or almonds, roasted, chopped
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Chocolate Peanut Butter Topping
- 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Topping Optional
- Flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Line a 7 x 5-inch loaf pan or dish with parchment paper on the bottom and sides leaving some overhanging to act as a handle to get the bars out easier for cutting. Alternatively, a silicone tray of the same size will work well.Break dates open, removing the pit and spreading the two halves open (like a date butterfly). Lay, open side down, over the bottom of the baking tin. Once you have roughly covered the surface of the baking tin use a small cup, spoon or your fingers to press the dates and create an even date layer without any gaps. Set aside.Add peanut butter and coconut oil to a small, heavy based saucepan. Over a low heat gently melt. To prevent any burning keep stirring. Once mixture is melted and well combined, turn off heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened.Pour peanut butter mixture over dates, and spread to an even layer. Sprinkle nuts over the top then place in the freezer for 1 hour, or until firm.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Topping
- Place chocolate chips, peanut butter and coconut oil in small dish and microwave at 50% power with 30 second bursts stirring between each one until melted and smooth.Or use double boiler method - (pot of boiling water with a bowl resting on top) melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter and coconut oil together.Once melted and mixed well together, pour over the top of your slice. Use a spoon to spread evenly, then sprinkle with optional sea salt flakes.Set in the freezer for 30 minutes. Use a hot, sharp knife to cut into 10-12 bars or more smaller squares.Store in fridge for up to 1 week or freezer for up to 3 months.
