A Nutella Smoothie Bowl is a fabulous rich and creamy yet nutritious breakfast,  dessert or snack. It is made with wholesome ingredients, such as bananas, avocado and Nutella chocolate spread. It absolutely tastes as good as it looks and its all for you. No need to share!

Decadent enough for dessert yet nutritious enough for breakfast, this smoothie bowl is the answer to all your sweet cravings. The classic combination of chocolate and hazelnut is quite extraordinary and combining these two in a delicious, creamy smoothie bowl makes for something very special. You get all the sweet, chocolatey, nutty goodness without any nasties.

This balanced bowl also consists of healthy carbs, fats and protein, so you can get all the nourishment you need for whatever lies ahead (all whilst nourishing your soul and indulging in a creamy chocolate dream).

It doesn’t get much more decadent than this healthy Nutella smoothie bowl. It has the creamiest texture that actually made me question whether I should label this as a smoothie bowl. For a solid week, I went back and forth: smoothie or ice cream, smoothie or ice cream…?

I settled on smoothie bowl (clearly) because I felt like expectations for ice cream are WAY high. Is this recipe mind-blowing for ice cream? Probably not. Is this recipe mind-blowing for a smoothie bowl? HELL YES!!

Technically, this recipe is “nice cream,” but I assumed most people don’t know what that is – right?? And, now that I’ve brought this up, I might as well explain it. Nice cream is healthy “ice cream” that uses frozen bananas as its base. You can add other fruit and / or flavoring to make it your own. It will never quite compete with real ice cream, but it’s pretty darn close!

Why you will love this recipe:

Nutella smoothie bowl tastes like the best frozen dessert yet it’s made with 100% whole ingredients

It’s super thick, creamy and naturally sweet – the consistency is very close to ice-cream
It’s a great way to serve fruit and veggies to picky eaters
It can be enjoyed as a fun breakfast, dessert or snack
It’s super quick to make with minimal cleanup
It’s gluten-free, vegan and refined sugar free.

This bowl is a pretty well-balanced meal! There are good carbs from banana, healthy fats and fiber from avocado, protein from Nutella and your fave protein powder as well as antioxidants and vitamins from cocoa powder.

The best part of any smoothie bowl are the toppings! This smoothie bowl is wonderfully smooth, creamy and chocolaty but adding fun garnishes is what brings it to a whole new level. It’s all about the variety of textures and flavors.

My winning combo of toppings for this smoothie bowl is:

Sliced banana: banana and Nutella are a perfect match!
Toasted hazelnuts: for a bit of crunch and another layer of hazelnut goodness.
Mini dark chocolate chips: one of my favorite toppings on ANY smoothie bowl!
Nutella: one tablespoon is plenty. I microwave it for 20-30 seconds until it melts a bit and drizzle it on top of the smoothie bowl. (homemade recipe below in notes).
Hemp hearts: these super seeds provide a nice boost of healthy omega-3s.

I love that smoothie bowls are quick to make and even easier to smother in healthy toppings than regular old smoothies that you drink through a straw. Not only do smoothie bowl toppings add more fun flavors and textures, they also take a slightly-filling smoothie into the actual-meal category.

The difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl is that the first one is drinkable and served in a glass, while the second is meant to be eaten with a spoon. In other words – smoothie bowls are VERY thick smoothies. Think soft serve ice-cream consistency!

Smoothie bowls are kind of my favorite thing ever. Sipping a smoothie is handy, especially if you are on the go; but if you really want to make a smoothie more meal-like and special, thicken that sucker up and pour it into a bowl!

Smoothie bowls satisfy us better than their drinkable counterparts, too, because you can eat them with a spoon. They feel more like a legit meal, particularly when covered with our favorite smoothie toppings.

I can’t wait for you to indulge in the rich, chocolatey goodness of my Nutella Smoothie Bowl! It’s a decadent yet healthy way to start your day or enjoy as a sweet any time treat.

Homemade Chocolate Protein Spread
Discover homemade healthy chocolate protein spread and you will never buy it at the store again. It’s smooth, chocolatey, and SO easy to make!
Super rich and creamy, it effortlessly holds its own with any of the chocolate spreads at the grocery store. And yet the homemade version also has fewer than half the calories per serving.
It’s much healthier than store-bought, without sacrificing any of the kid friendly classic chocolate taste that we all know and love. This sugar-free Nutella version is creamy and smooth, with a rich chocolate hazelnut flavor.
I have been making sugar-free chocolate spread for well over a decade now. And in fact, I may have been the first person to develop a recipe for it. It was way back in 2011, when I was craving some chocolatey deliciousness and it’s been a favorite ever since.
I was astonished that it was so easy to make my own homemade version. Best of all, I like it even better than the original. Because it is less tooth-achingly sweet, the chocolate hazelnut flavor shines through even more.
My whole family loves this delicious spread. We put it on everything - slathering on toast, drizzling on crêpes, mixing into cookie dough, on pancakes, cheesecake, puddings, smoothies and smoothie bowls  – you name it, we will drizzle this over it. But I am also not above spooning it right out of the jar and straight into my mouth.
Its a decadent and healthy addition to breakfast, dessert or healthy snacks.
